Warnock on TalkSport just now

I think Mcclaren pulis and Warnock have all been disliked by sections of boros support for always having one eye on self promotion and the way they are portrayed in the media. Personally I don't have too much of a problem with it, given that managers are appointed on such an unprofessional basis, their reputation is hugely important.

Agreed, but the difference was McClaren actually won things, Warnock's results are bang average.

McClaren also got dogs abuse for saying "magnificent" in press conferences alot, having his teeth done, and being ginger, by sections of our fanbase.

McClarens transfer budget was slightly different to Warnock's!

So were expectations. He had a budget that was about 15th for the first few years then rose to about 9th in the country IIRC yet still people believed we should be finishing higher than we did. He met his budget position and acheived beyond it.

Warnock, was well behind some clubs with smaller budgets than us last year......but I wouldn't blame all of that on him because he didn't negotiate Brit and Fletcher etc. he inherited that problem, but failed to solve it.

Well he signed Akpom who was his number one target, or wasn't, depending on which of his contradictory comments you choose to believe.

He saved us when we were heading for the drop. Steadied the ship last season (although I was a little disappointed with how we died off towards the end of the season). I'm hoping a manager with his record is going to have us mouting a serious promotion challenge this season. If we're nowhere near then fair enough criticise but to do it now seems a bit premature? Especially just before the season starts.

his record is largely history. He's had 1 promotion (Cardiff) and 4 sackings (Cardiff, Leeds, QPR and Palace) in the last decade.

Football has largely moved on tactically from the times of most of his success. The game is more professionalised and full of more tactically aware coaches from around the world. He always got sacked at prem level because that tactical limitation was exposed, did he ever complete a season at that level without being sacked?

What he does well is keep the game simple and for limited quality players that is a positive, but it's getting harder to do that and get promoted at championship level as the technical and tactical quality at this level is way above what it was 10-30 years ago when Warnock had most of his success. He could still definitely get a League One or Two promotion with a ragtag team though and maybe, maybe he can sneak enough out of us to get a play off spot this year if Gibson plays a blinder and gets us a top quality CF

Warnock was doing great up until the final third of last season. He essentially binned it off himself by talking about the following season when all of the focus should’ve been on catching the top six. And before people say we had no chance, teams with big budgets, his hands were tied, small squad lacking depth/quality, etc - Barnsley made the play-offs. As soon as Warnock started rattling on about next season the errors crept in and we looked soft. Everyone switched off. And that’s on him, IMO. It’s the biggest mistake he’s made as Boro manager.

I agree. It seemed like he downed tools a bit last season and I couldn't understand that. Constantly going back to the Fry incident and making out it had cost us our season. I'm hoping he has us all guns blazing this season though! UTB

What a thouroughly demoralising thread, just a few days before the start of the season.

The other day I was thinking to myself how the supporters of MFC had taken to Neil Warnock. Not since Bryan Robson has any manager enjoyed so much respect.

I didn't realise that there was this festering dislike by sections of our support.

Some potty comments on here
I can’t believe anyone would fester dislike for a football manager because they like Boris Johnson.
Some people just want to turn any debate into one about politics.

It’s silly.

I think you miss the point, people are peed off that he used his platform to wax lyrical about a divisive and corrupt political figure. He can like what he wants, however people will always judge him for that. We all judge people every day. However the key is the abuse of his position as Boro manager to push his political bias, it's not a good look, it's clearly going to be divisive, and not a very smart move.

Some people just want to bring politics into anything.

I’m not watching this thread anymore so no need to reply.

It did annoy me somewhat but hard to hate him for it when our Chairman, who we nearly all love, is also a Tory.

The thing I dislike about Warnock is his refusal to accept responsibility for anything that goes wrong. Particularly galling was the Akpom situation - he chased the player and stated he was over the moon when we signed him and said he couldn't believe we'd managed it. A few months later when it became obvious we'd signed a lemon he spent the rest of the season blaming 'the recruitment team'. Stop telling lies and own up to your mistakes.

I’m not interested mate go and argue it with someone else. Thanks.
I'm not arguing anything mate, I've just agreed that some people like Warnock, want to bring politics into places it shouldn't be, like an MFC press conference. Is that not your point make football about football not party politics, or do you have a different point?

If you also read the rest of my post, the reason I don't like him isn't because of his political views but his average results and readymade excuses for those results, seeking to blame everyone but himself.
