Just not blue ? Actually this wiki entry is interesting I never realised why they reduced the number of ship to two - it is to represent Capt Cook.
Boro Town crest
I always through they were captain cooks ships..
didn’t think they were anything to do with shipbuilding.

Middlesbrough was incorporated as a borough in 1853, and immediately adopted a coat of arms, although this was not registered with the college of arms until 1911.

So Middlesbrough Football club had the ciat of arms before the town registered the crest with the college of arms?

I find it crazy how people want a blue badge when it's never been on our kit and we play in red! It seems a small minority, so you'd expect that a blue badge wouldn't win any vote, if there is going to be one.
I think as Rob alluded to further up, we've generally had an issue displaying a red and white badge on the red shirts. I think the new badge being more than just red and white would not only help but look much better. That's not to say I want a blue lion, but I guess it will be how the club and/or designer conveys the message.

One thing for sure is that you can't please everyone, as this thread shows, and regardless of what the new badge looks like, some won't be happy.

Before the current crest was forced upon us a white lion on the red kit was the most popular variation.

2 lions.
One red
One blue
In battle.

This represents the fans best.
That would be a good logo to represent a fan group perhaps.. the blue lion represents the town.. the red one represents the club at the moment.

It is the star that represents CC not the ships .

Where did you get that from ?
I think it's just common sense mate. It certainly wouldn't exist in its current guise. I'd say our support is a third to half made up of support from people outside of Middlesbrough. ie Stockton, Billingham, Redcar and Cleveland, north Yorkshire towns.

Just googled a few coat of arms for other towns and cities. I think the argument for a blue lion is a poor one when you look how most other teams have very few links to their coat of arms.

There’s a few more examples like Sheffield, Birmingham, that are similar, i.e. nothing to do with the football club badge.
