Trial by media

👍👍👍 Exactly this.

There are lots of ‘hey, you can see why people think it looks like the establishment/MSM are out to get him bECauSe hE SPeaKS TrUTh’ cretins all over social media.

No. No. No.
It’s the exact type of message he wants his followers (ie those hard-of-thinking conspiracists whose ignorance, stupidity and naivety he monetises) to be pumping out.
I always thought thick people like this were a tiny minority. But judging by my Facebook where they are all defending him they are f*cking everywhere. Either that or I was just unlucky being at school with a load of thick people.

Personally, following the disgusting behaviour of himself and Ross towards an elderly man, Andrew Sachs, leaving that message on his answer machine, both should never have been allowed to promote their toxic minds again.

Instead they are given a slap on the wrist. And further rewarded by getting contracts to earn lots of money spouting their immoral views and assuaging their guilt and huge egos.

I am old school. I believe if you disrespect people like this, which in effect was bullying, you should pay the consequences. It is clear that Brand and Ross were not going to change their behaviours.

Rewarding them with mega money contracts says as much about their employers as it does them.

The problem now is that if he is innocent, Brand will have this hanging over his head - at least until the police and courts do their thing, which could take years.

The same happened to Benjamin Mendy.

True and this is regrettable. That said, in many ways he hasn't helped himself by his completely over the top promiscuous behaviours. These are lessons we all have to learn in life. Play with fire and you get your fingers burnt. He enjoys all the attention he gets clearly.

He is an intelligent man and yet seems to lack complete insight into what is deemed socially acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. At some point I am sure someone must have advised him that he walking on thin ice. Maybe his over inflated ego ignored that valuable advice and he chose to continue? If that is the case he gets no sympathy from me.

I've got mixed views.

The alleged behaviour of Brand, and others like him, should be dealt with property, proportionately and in a timely fashion, firstly by his 'employers' and secondly, if sufficiently serious, the police.

The media part should come a little behind that and report the facts.

But in this case it seems that those with knowledge of his alleged behaviour did nothing to address it, which means the media's role shifts from reporting to investigating, which is a very good thing in my view.

The part I'm conflicted about is that the media can and often do get the facts and context badly wrong and it can be very damaging when they do.

I understand your point, but Brand has had a 4 year investigation by supposedly respectable journalists leading up to the documentary allegations being aired, I will be surprised if they haven’t locked down all bases before airing as they have opened the door to potential litigation. Of course it is possible he is innocent and if he is he can sue. It is also possible he is guilty but nobody willing to go through a trial, some of the women in the documentary may not be living in Britain. If no charges are brought will he dare seek to sue? If he were innocent, you’d think he would, If he doesn’t, that may then tell its own story.

I know one thing, there will be plenty of high profile celebrities keeping their heads down at the minute (no pun intended) and minding their P’s & Q’s

I haven't seen the documentary but the title is "In plain sight", so already the media are conditioning us to liken him to Jimmy Saville.

Trial by Media? He's already been hung, drawn and quartered, innocent or not.

Let’s be honest it’s hardly a one off allegation with very little evidence it’s multiple over a period of years with more coming forward.

Let’s let the courts decide ( if it gets that far)

Funny seeing newspaper covers yesterday, like the Daily Mail going with "Why was the left so besotted with this self-confessed narcissist?" instead of, I dunno, "Why is the right so besotted by him now that he is being accused of rape?"

OP let’s look at it this way either he gets what’s coming to him through the justice system or he’ll have the one of the biggest libel lawsuits in media history.

Do you really think channel 4 or the times haven’t thought of this???
I think following the lead of any press in this country and assuming because there is more than one alleged victim or story that he is guilty is a very worrying route to go down.

Also the libel line... well if you get a pay off, its fine.
We have seen people in this country absolutely hounded by the press, look at someone like barry george who probably got a hefty pay out does this cover what him and people go through who are innocent.

Following the programme is it necessary to highlight every show, joke where he has something disgusting that proves he is repulsive not necessarily guilty. He obviously has issues and is very strange. Whether he is guilty or not should be left upto the police and courts.

Barry George never got anything. The lead investigator in that case still is certain it was him.

These stories about how men treat women really do shine a light on people's thinking when they flare up.

The disingenuous voice of 'if they have a complaint they should have gone to the police' brigade, who know the whole system around sexual assault is set against the victim, and convictions are few and far between, leaving men with money and chutzpah to fancy their chances.

The 'this should be a police matter' argument being spouted on the same day that the investigating force -the Met - has confirmed 1,000 of its officers (1 in 34!!) are currently suspended, many for sexually inappropriate behaviour. I wouldn't trust the police if one of my loved ones or friends had to make a report.

On this thread there's people who don't like Brand because of some nasty voicemail messages to Andrew Sachs, but very little concern about how it was Sach's grand-daughter whose trust was completely betrayed by Brand and Ross for cheap gags.

Women constantly have to navigate this **** as a matter of course on a daily basis, and men continue to put their fingers in their ears, and say 'well its someone else's responsibility to sort this'
