Trevor Sinclair

I support free speech & I'm sick of cancel culture, I don't agree with what he said but don't think he should lose his job over it.
I'm as anti-Royal as they come but I recognise the clear distinction between the institution and the person. Having a go at the person isn't free speech.

He should have already lost his job for the other things he's done so it's more likely a straw that broke the camel's back sort of sacking. There will be a backlash against him because this will reach far more people. He's a moron. The fewer people like him in the public eye the better.

Free speech does not equate to free from consequence, public opinions bring with then positive or negative responses, say or do something stupid in the public eye and you will likely and rightly get vilified for it, more so if you have a history of doing exactly what your complaining about.

So where you do draw the line with 'cancel culture' what is ok to say as long as its free speech and part of an individuals opinion?
IMHO if you aren't committing a crime/slander/libel, inciting hatred or violence or punching down at a vulnerable/out group, then it is pretty much fair comment.
It is fine for that opinion to be challenged but I don't see losing your job being a suitable sanction for a disagreement in opinion.

Its inexplicable that he could read the room so badly. Even Putin managed to send a dignified and outwardly magnanimous response.

Trevor Sinclair is one of those people that everybody knows, the person who probably shouldn’t drink alcohol. I’d say if he hadn’t been on the bottle then he doesn’t post what he does.

The fact is, the majority of people who are outraged by his comments are probably white, therefore they don’t fully understand where his comments are coming from.

To him, and many, The Queen was the head of state for a country where institutional racism has been present for a long time… and still is.

I don’t agree with him, because I’m not black and haven’t experienced racism. But I can understand why he wouldn’t mourn her.

He just chose a really bad time to air his views. I don’t think he should lose his job for that. He should talk about it, maybe then we’d understand more about how he came to feel that way.

You do know he himself is a racist don't you?

Some black people can be racist. Some white people can be racist. Both can also be absolute *****. You don’t get a pass because of the colour of your skin. He’s unfortunately both.

Again, nowhere have I suggested you do. But nothing good comes from no dialogue. Sacking him for having a different view, based on his experience (whatever his character), is wrong.
