Tory leadership candidates

Who do we think labour secretly want to win ?
Out of the real candidates like nutcase truss or slimy Sunak or Penelope (Penny) pitstop or maybe Tommy Tug it often ?

Javid gone now as well

Dare I say it, I’m actually feeling a bit disappointed by this. I mean they are all rancid, but I felt that he at least possessed a level of competence, and god knows we need some in the hot seat right now.
I’ve also heard things about him actually not being a total see you en tee, which is about as much as you can hope for Tory wise.

Would be entertaining though 😁
I think truss would be the gift labour want and would just keep on giving with her forced smile and rigid persona. (If she even has a persona)
My concern is she’s a female version of Johnson
Complete nut job and can’t read the (country) room….and the damage shed cause would be catastrophic.
I actually think she has a little bit of autism

Im hoping for the sweet spot of someone who labour can still beat easily (which might actually be most of them anyway) but who won't **** things up too much in the meantime.

some of them are downright terrifying. Some proper RWNJs in the mix.

Probably why he didn't get enough support.

On the plus side, he'd probably have had the best chance of beating Labour i think.

Ditto, whilst it seems incredibly selfish to wish further misery on the country to ensure a Labour gvt next time it really is just differing shades of terrible with the 8 candidates.

Still think Sunak is probably the one Labour least want to face, or maybe Hunt (but I think he's a long shot).

There's at least 3-4 on the list who probably won't last to the next election if appointed :)

Yeah can't see Hunt winning. He's practically a Marxist by Tory membership standards.

I think Sunak would probably be found out, but who knows? He has a tough job convincing people the state of economy was nothing to do with him. As you say potentially dangerous but at least quite heavily tarred by the Johnson scandals. Easy to attack.

Mordaunt is a big danger for labour I think. Largely untarnished by the Johnson debacle (she was a minister but assume she refused to go out and lie for him too often, so most won't associate her with it) and comes across as having a modicum of competence, which is a lot more than most other candidates. Her politics are still pretty unpleasant, but think she'll be better at hiding that than most of the others.

Truss would be a dream for labour. You look at who's backing her and she's basically the "continuity option" from Johnson. Mad nads and the Victorian pencil back as ministers? She really doesn't get it at all does she? Problem is they'd potentially wreak quite a lot of damage in the meantime.

And then there were 6 - hunt and zahawi gone

First rnd results were.

• Rishi Sunak - 88 votes
• Penny Mordaunt - 67 votes
• Liz Truss - 50 votes
• Tom Tugendhat - 37 votes
• Kemi Badenoch - 40 votes
• Suella Braverman - 32 votes

I've met him and seemed a fairly grounded fella, by far the best pick, surprised he's gone.

They are all pretty odious but how the hell did Braverman get 32 votes - she is an imbecile.
Probably Boris loyalists. She’s literally a human jelly bean who is slightly more clever than Truss. I think Penny will be the biggest threat for labour, can’t see Sunak or Truss winning the next election. Either of them up against a proper leader like Burnham or Rayner and they’d be wiped out…
