Top 5 worst gigs

Black Sabbath @ Newcastle City Hall May 1978. Supported but blown off stage by Van Halen.
Bjork at O2 Arena a couple of years ago.

But no question the worst was Hot House Flowers at Bexhill De La War Pavilion 2018.
An 18 minute version of Don't Go would have broken any ISIS terrorist.
Must have been awesome to see VH in 78 with DLR? Not surprised they upstaged Sabbath. Runnin’ with the devil must have sounded fantastic in those days.

One other crap one - Primal Scream at Leeds O2 in about 2012 also. Weird atmosphere, loads of older people and younger people but all quite chippy.

1 Ian Brown (suporting the manics) - previously mentioned by a few people just terrible.
2 Republica (glasto 95 ish) - horrendous
3 Artic monkeys ( finsbury park 2018 ish) - Actual bands were ok, just terrible organisation and too many very drunk drugged punters
4 Morrissey (sage 2006 ish) - was very very dull. he was in a massive huff
5 Happy Mondays (newcastle city hall 91-92 ish) - Shaun Ryder off his face couldn't remember the words. Band incapable of stopping and starting at the same time. Stereo MCs supporting them were fantastic though.

Meatloaf at Castle Howard circa 2008 ish (I think). I was desperate to see him, so looking forward to the gig at an amazing venue. What a let down, so out of tune and rude to the audience too. Teetotal my ‘arris, he had been drinking I thought anyway. Absolutely gutted at the time.

I've mentioned on here before that we sacked off Generation X at Cheltenham Town Hall in 1978 in favour of a Whitbread pub. Bob Dylan, on the other hand, was excellent in 1978.

Not really bad gigs but seen plenty at festivals that the audience just arent interrsted or bands look like they going through the motio s with no real enthusiam or connection with the public. They usually just walk off looking miffed

Van Morrison with Linda Gail Lewis at Cambridge Corn Exchange
Leonard Cohen Newcastle City Hall in the 70’s
Tim Hardin Henry Boot Hall Nottingham University in the 70’s , absolutely incoherent sadly

Sorry Capybara, you are correct of course !
Also just recalled another awful gig….Graham Parker and the Rumour at the Town Hall Crypt , again in the 70’s. This time we (me Paul Burgess and Paul Fox from Billingham) decided we would go to the dressing room to tell Graham where we thought he could improve the show…….it didn’t end well 😎🤕

Probably at that gig and always loved GP&TR

Black grape at the town hall were pretty garbage. The most exciting thing that happened was Shaun being hit by a manky sweatshirt

I must have been extraordinarily lucky or have really low standards because I'm struggling to think of a band I've really not enjoyed.
I do remember a Metal band called Thursday at Reading festival who even from a mile away were so loud I could feel it shaking my insides.

The Smiths at the Mayfair. Spat off stage.
Leftfield at Brixton. Fell into a bass-bin by leaning on an a non-existent grill.
Happy Mondays at Brixton. Someone was sick in my bucket hat
Spike Island Terrible sound, got lost.
Primal Scream - terrible mix up over psychedelics on stage and off

Ian Brown at Brixton Academy. I went through a phase where I was really into his solo stuff but he was awful live.

Sang out of key and I can remember he kept restarting one song because he wasn't happy with something. Wasted about 10 minutes and people started to boo.

I’ve only had one bad gig and that was when our lass dragged me to watch Robbie Williams. Never again! Although it was quite funny when he started getting stroppy with the crowd when Ant & Dec joined him on the stage to sing a song (yes, it was as bad as you’re imagining it) and they got a bigger cheer than him. 😀

Any downsides to some of the gigs I’ve been to are usually because the opening bands are pretty bland, or all their songs sound the same. There have been a few where I’ve thought the band sounded promising but then their next song sounds the same, then their next song… and so on, until everyone just starts ignoring them.

Thursday are a post-hardcore band, also known as "screamo".

They also used to encourage fans to download their back catalogue illegally, as they were on a label they had an acrimonious fall-out with (Victory Records.)

Seen them live a number of times, they toured with the likes of AFI, Coheed and Cambria, Finch and The Used. I first saw them at the very first Slam Dunk Festival at Leeds and they were superb.
