Tommy Conway

It’s taken about 6 or 7 years. But everyone has come around to my view that Britt was dog dirt 😂
I’m not sure there has been many Britt fans on here for a long time. He wasn’t terrible but he was ridiculously over priced and didn’t appear to have a particularly good attitude. Average championship striker….3M maybe would have been a fair price. Not 15ffs

Fletcher was much worse in my opinion and even more hideously overpriced.

Cheers Monk and whichever idiot signed off on those deals.

Over priced at 3m to be honest.

46 blanks in 48 games against top 6 teams. That tells you he’s a lower league player and in the back pocket of any top half champo striker.

Worth about 1-1.5m

2 great finishes today. I like what I see. The right age too. Well done on the recruitment team.

There cannot be many times in recent years that we have been able to rest our top scorer who is on fire, and not look weaker for it.

Conway is a great player. I caught his interview in the car on BBC Tees and he seems a good lad too.

Him and ELL are arguably the best in the division. Just need to compete and not start together (as Conway is not a CAM).

Assombalonga was absolutely dreadful. The damage that deal did to our finances over 6 or 7 years means it’s probably the worst bit of business the club has ever done imo.

Conway on the other hand, he looks great. A grafter, a real No9, a bit of quality, a good finisher. I really like him. With him and ELL, we could quite easily have not one but two 20+ goal strikers on our hands.

Absolutely.

Conway is literally the opposite to Assombalonga. Not only in finances but actual play.

I can remember lots of posters on here, including myself, saying that it was a good signing. We never gave him the right service, particularly Pulis, and it eventually affected his confidence.

His knee was shot when we signed him. He is the perfect highlights package player. He’s the sort of player who scores two braces a month against Rotherham and Walsall and you see his name on Soccer Saturday or Final Score on the off chance. It *feels* like he must be good. Like Kenny Deucher for Gretna.

He’s like Craig Mackail-Smith. You beat Scunthorpe 5-0 and he’ll score all five. You need a goal to pinch a point in an important game that means something at the business end of the table, he’s nowhere to be seen.

Was it £4.5 million or 'rising to'?

Would we pay nearly five million for a non nailed on first choice at the time, young player of potential in his last year?
