Tommy Conway

If he'd rather be at Burnley, we can't do much about that. We probably win either way: if he comes here, it's because he wants to be here, if he doesn't want to be here, we're probably better off without.

Swap deals are notoriously difficult to get over the line though, as more people have to agree to it.
Nothing to stop BC spending money from us on Twine, is there?

Que sera, sera.

If it’s a financial thing, Burnley may well be able to offer him more money vs. our current wage structure.
possibly, possibly not. Burnleys FFP position apparently isn't great. They went for it in the prem, spent a lot, they had compulsory purchases this year. If they didn't structure wages with big reductions on relegation. then they might be in a bit of a hole.

I have a funny feeling it won’t go all that well for Parker at Burnley and they might struggle. Wouldn’t be surprised if he is an early casualty. Despite struggling in the prem, Kompany was well liked and respected. If he was still there, I’d have them as favorites to go back up.

They've spent a lot of money this summer and have retained a lot of players who were part of their promotion winning squad.
~But they also have a new manager. And part of their problem last season, was not keeping some of the players who they had when gaining promotion.

The same players who clinched them promotion 2 season ago aren't all there and/or are 2 years older.

Ian Maatsen, Nathan Tella & Muric - those 3 were big players 2 seasons ago and they're no longer there.

What happened to Ramsay? Did they have to sign him or similar to Archers deal with SHU?

Yes, I think it was a different deal to archer. I think Villa had a buy back clause, so similar to the philogene-hull deal and Villa haven’t triggered it…so he’s a Burnley player, but probably just taking a physio spot up right now

This is true, plus how well will the existing squad take to the ‘horse-shoe’ style of play that Parker adopts? People see the two promotions but that doesn’t depict the full story.

I was wondering about that because it was reported identically to the Archer deal. I guess it must have been more like Philogene which is good news for Villa but not for Burnley. Burnley really screwed up their transfers last season. Paying £15m for a player with a handful of Championship games and more time out injured than on the pitch was ludicrous.

yup, there is a lot ludicrous about Burnley as an outsider.

There is a lot wrong with #Burnleys squad.

to start with they have 36 professionals on their books. Easily the biggest squad, 30 are over 21 and therefore need to be registered to play. So they absolutely need to get rid of at least 6 of these 30 to sign and register a player.

Of the 36 players only 7 are english. A real united nations, creating a culture and consensus will be tough. Of those English players it's likely they will want Jay Rodriguez, Twine, and Redmond out and Trafford will probably be sold.

They've only got 2 GKs and one is likely to be sold
They've got EIGHT CBs but only one LB and he's never played in this country before
They have SIX left wingers and SIX strikers.

I'm not sure what the strategy is, but it seems a mess to me

True. Burnley are definitely more likely to get promoted than Boro. Personally I think they'll win the league on close to 100 points.

However, from a footballing point of view.... If he comes to Boro, he's only behind ELL at a team that plays one striker. He should get plenty of minutes and more chance to succeed individually...

Burnley have Amdouuni (£15m+) and Foster (£10m+), they've just signed a young striker from France for £4m...
Jay Rodriquez who even at 35 will probably see a lot of championship minutes, and Weghorst.... He could be going in as their 6th choice striker.

The Twine situation complicates matters for us and tips the favour strongly in Burnley's favour. It's been strongly rumoured down there for months that Twine to City is a done deal.

This reminds me of last summer, Boro strongly linked with Cannon, then in stepped relegated Leicester, and it was game over.

At the end of the day it will be down to the player and his agent, as to where he will go.

If they are serious about getting him, I think he will choose Burnley, they walked the league 2yrs ago, and have a strong squad for this season, and a great chance of finishing in the top two.

True but they've still got Brownhill, Cullen and Benson, who were key players for them.

I know spending money doesn't always guarantee success but it certainly helps.

Decent comparison

I am sure Burnley can offer him more money and a better chance of promotion, but I really wonder if Tom Cannon was pleased he played only 13 games for Leicester last season in a 46 game season. Conway has been a regular for two seasons at Bristol City.

If he signs I think he'd bring a lot to the squad and if he doesn't then he wouldn't have been a regular starter and don't want him anyway!
In all seriousness why do some people seem to think Burnley are like Real Madrid and we can't possibly compete with them ?
It's not that long ago they were about the same size club as jossy's giants,OK they've got parachute payments but they've got a whopping wage bill,a losing mentality and a massively overrated manager.
