Time for a second lockdown?

I do. I asked you a question and you answered with "do nothing"

I'm wondering how that will look in a months time, that's all.

You don't respond to my questions, you don't discuss my points, you claim things about me I don't write. Pointless.

From the study, I quote:-

'
There were warnings from doctors at the beginning of lockdown in March that there was a sharp drop in hospital attendance for emergencies such as heart attacks.

It was reported that at one point the number of people going to A&E had halved, while cancer referrals had plunged by 70 per cent.

Other studies have already suggested that a lack of access to urgent cancer care and a drop in referrals could lead to an extra 35,000 deaths a year.

An earlier paper published in The Lancet Oncology found some lives will be 20 years shorter due to cancers that have been missed.

This new study has raised the possibility that the wider impact of lockdown killed more people than the virus.

The finding comes from an analysis of Office of National Statistics figures by experts at the Universities of Sheffield and Loughborough, working with consultancy firm Economic Insight.

They estimate that there were 21,544 extra deaths, an average of 2,693 a week, during the first eight weeks of restrictions. '

So no evidence that people who died because of lockdown has killed more people than covid

Shielding the vulnerable from the virus is hardly doing nothing is it? It’s common sense to put those that are vulnerable out of harms way and let those with next to no chance of long term harm from Covid, the vast majority of us, get on with living our lives and stopping the country slide even further into a black hole.

You know why people are proposing a second lockdown, maybe even one policed by the military?
It's because, we as a nation are a disfunctional mess and we are more "self entitled teenager" than "responsible adult".
Since the start of this you've had people who haven't taken part at all in any of the efforts to control the virus. Then you've had those who do the bare minimum to comply, the mask wearer's who don't cover their noses or pull them down to chat to people face to face. Those who don't even pretend to practise decent personal hygiene.
Then you've got those who have done their bit and even gone beyond. The key workers and NHS staff that have kept the wheels turning just so we can reach the point where people can get a Big Mac or a beer and stick two fingers up in thanks because lockdown has been "hard" on them.
Then you've got people suggesting we lock the vulnerable away from society until we get a vaccine so that everyone else can just get on with living a normal life.
How about we start to think about others and do what is needed as a nation before we reach the point where properly Draconian measures will be forced upon us?
That goes for the PM downwards through every level of society. We've brought this level of suffering on ourselves because we haven't been responsible enough as a population to do our bit. We've all heard the stories, seen the examples of people not bothering so why waste time arguing that country X or Y did this and that? We did it our way and that's why we are where we are where we are. If we want to change the course we're on then we need to change the way we behave to one that is about responsibility towards others. If we can't do that, not as individuals, but as a nation, then we'll continue to suffer.

Will a second lockdown happen without the armed forces implementing it?
You'd think they would be involved if Johnson announced a nationwide one. There would be lots of civil unrest.

Only way I can see Johnson announcing another nationwide lockdown is if they also announce they are paying people's wages too.

The only question you asked me is do we need to go into a full lockdown? I believe so at this point. The rise in cases is a concern and I would hope it could be tempered by a national lockdown. Hopefully it’ll be a brief one to reduce the rise and make sure there isn’t an explosion in deaths in September

I said “do nothing until winter” which is exactly what Al Is suggesting

They said the first lockdown would be brief.

6 months later and places are still shut.

because people here cannot be trusted. our society is full of self centred, im ok knobs. A manager I saw in Tesco, having a dig at 2 of his staff for having no mask on.. I did stop to ask why he wasn't wearing one, I was basically told to go away...and do one. I walked by several pubs after my train trip and most were heaving.. why did we even bother...

I think if we do got into lockdown, we're gonna have to bring the army in coz I honestly don't think people are gonna lock down again voluntarily.

The virus has not gone away nor is it going to. There is no second wave, we are still in the first wave. Of course the virus will go up. We've practically been cowering behind our sofa for five months. Did people really thing it would just disappear once we start living again. We cannot lock down in perpetuity. I think a little realism rather than negativity would be beneficial to people's mental health. Fancy cherry picking rises in positive tests whilst failing to take into account the rise in testing. Take a balanced view.

I think you're right about this. There seems to be a bigger lockdown resistance in this country compared to other countries, that are coping better with the virus

but if the idiots who aren't taking the precautions they have been asked to, it will just keep rising again

yep my mate lives in France and he had to have a document to allow him to get by the army/police blockades to go shopping
