Thomas Glover is extremely dedicated…

Youve seen the light:)
There were a few times when he needed to just clip it towards the halfway point of the touchline. I know he and Dieng and the whole team play to instruction but even Dieng occasionally clips one out there to alleviate some of the pressure. It’s better to lose a ball there or give away a throw in than losing it on the edge of your own box.

… to passing out from the back isn’t he? Absolutely kamikaze at times. I normally love it but I’m not sure Dael wants in there, with Sterling breathing down his neck.

Probably the outright maddest goalkeeper we’ve ever had?
Yeah, I really like the mad b****d but he's nowhere near dieng's standard.

Still think Lumley’s the maddest I’ve seen. Purely because I always thought ‘it’s mad he’s a professional footballer’.

The passing out from the back will come from Carrick but he also will put faith in his players to know which of the other ten players in red to pass it to, maybe ones with opposition players hanging off them or players with their backs turned aren't the right option?

Need Dieng back ASAP and next year hopefully Glover becomes 3rd choice with a Brynn or someone as the backup, no basis to that, no knowledge if these U18/U21 who are out on loan are any good but my god...

I think Glover is fine. Dieng has to be first choice, but I'm happy with Glover in goal if Dieng is out. He was doing as he was told by Carrick, that's how he wants us to play..... I'm just not sure it was the right tactic against Chelsea!

😜

I'd forgot he was on Spurs' books at one point, Poch was having a friendly chat with him at the end of the game.

I thought his pass to Fry was ridiculous when Sterling was right behind him. Watching us play out of the back can be nervy at times, but it's 10x worse when you have Gary Neville groaning as it happens.

Just to be clear, this is not really meant as a criticism of Glover as such. He’s just extremely committed to the philosophy. I mean playing it out to Fry last night when he did, he must’ve known Sterling was charging towards Fry and that he was playing into trouble. I understand he is following instructions but he *seems* to play more ‘risky’ passes than Dieng does.

I know I said he’s a mad one, I base that on a few things - his driven, straight-as-a-dye passes into a player in the centre circle, which *feel* really unusual and I really like, his commitment to the playing style, the way when he catches a cross he is instantly looking to play the ball out and start a counter, and his wild, McGree-inspired half-mullet.

He’s done well for us. I think he’s a fairly unusual ‘keeper, or is when compared to other Boro ‘keepers I’ve seen play for us. It doesn’t mean I think he’s sh*t, or don’t like him. I just think Dieng is better and that is borne out by some of the things we’ve seen on the field this season.

To be fair to Glover... He's obviously been told to do it by Carrick and the coaching team. Otherwise, they'd tell him to stop.

We looked really uncomfortable last night. I know it’s the way Carrick wants us to play, as most teams do now, but we should have realised early on that just hoofing it out was the better option.
