*The Unofficial "official - "The Chase is on" - Boro v Stoke. Match-Day Thread*

Its a measure of how far we have come, when a draw feels like a defeat.
But if you cant win, dont get beat.
I suppose Michael Carrick is right:
Lets not get carried away.
Its only our second draw since November 2022.
It was frustrating and at times we could have done things differently. Better.
Steffen was MOTM for me tonight.
He kept us in the game when they should have scored.
Nine more "Cup Finals" to go.
Its not all over untill its all over.

They dominated in midfield Pearson was very good for them, if they had a decent striker they would be pushing for promotion Dwight Gayle is robbing a living there
Pearson Smallbone Hoever all on loan from Prem Clubs. Example of good loan recruitment as Forest did last season. Maybe too late who knows?

This was on the Sheffield Forum:

"Second time Boro have drawn within 4 points of us, second time they've shat their pants.

It's a totally different pressure when the other team is within touching distance."

Whilst I wouldn't have put it quite so strongly, I think there is some truth in it.

Easy for them to say that. Let’s see how they get on tonight

Hopefully badly 🤞🤞
If they get beat tonight after our slight wobble last night it shows it’s them who is feeling the pressure immensely. If we then win on Saturday we will be second going into the break. That would still be a physcological blow to them and big boost for us

I think Sheff Utd will get something from their game tonight. I just hope it's not all three. Feels a bit disappointing not being one behind already really.

(I think we should have been ahead at half time last night (Chuba could have had a very good hat trick). Second half was a different story).

Yeah Chuba was unlucky with them 2 efforts.

Win on Saturday and we're within 1-3 points of Sheffield United, whatever their result tonight.
Hopefully they lose, but even if they win 6 points is only 2 results and there are 9 games left.

Preston are in excellent form too, and we don't have a great recent record against them, so that's far from a given that we'd beat them, but it's still all to play for.

The truth is lads we will probably drop more points between now and the end of the season.

Last night we dropped a couple of points and didn't play at our best. It happens from time to time.

What will also happen is sheff utd will drop points between now and the end of the season.

We will finish second.

They mock us whilst looking away from the creaking wreck, which is Sheffield United:
Aging players in an unbalanced side.
Trying to save the season with a 37 year old who prefers punching opponents to playing against them.
A Manager with few fans or friends - many calling for him to go.
Same Manager making inexplicable team selections and subs when the team are losing.
Form at 15th in the current Championship form table.
They can mock us, but they know - with 9 games left, they could easily fall off the promotion cliff.
Not much to be confident about at their club.

I don't think it was a pressure issue last night, the games caught up with us. We have some young players not really used to sat-tue-sat games. Our forwards didn't close down very much at all after about 20 mins. Ramsay, McGree and Archer really lacked the energy levels, but two of them are kids, one coming back from a serious injury and McGree has pretty much played every minute for months.

Good point gained for me. We kept doing the things we do and we could have been 4 up despite their decent play. Didn’t see their penalty shiut but have to say the ref needed to be stronger with their midfield. Cynical fouls when we turned over possession. Neil has Stoke playing well now and they were probably the most effective side we have played this season in the championship. I am pleased we have another tough one on Saturday to keep it going. Preston I think aare unbeaten in 7

Archer should be a bit fired up for Saturday

@starplayer I didn't think the ref was that bad. It was physical, and the pushing at the end should have been reigned in a bit. For me their penalty was a definite penalty, he also missed the handball from Stoke, which was also a definite penalty. I can see why he missed that, it was masked by the players body a bit and at full speed it was difficult to spot the handball.

Sheffield Utd should worry about Millwall and Luton as well as us, momentum really isn't with them at the moment. It isn't just between the two of us for second. From our point of view it's important we make the play offs this season at the very least.
