* The Unofficial "Official" Middlesbrough v Blackburn Rovers. FA Cup. [01/25] Match-Day Thread *

There is something quite wrong with a Boro supporter not caring if Boro win or not.
Bigger picture though isn't it. For a club at our level cup games are basically glorified friendlies. Our chances of winning them are next to zero and they add even more games into a congested season, heightening the risk of injuries.

For me we'd need to be an established EPL team before we even start to think about taking them seriously.

I guess there's the prize money per round, does anyone know what a third round win is worth? I'm betting it's a drop in the ocean compared to other revenue streams.

I would understand that if our first team elect players were on the field, however, they weren’t. We had our squad players rotated in, the squad which Carrick has gone on record as saying he is happy with.

Personally, I would expect the fringe players to be busting a gut to impress - they ended up doing the opposite and playing themselves out of the head coaches thoughts.

I agree, the League is the priority, but it shouldn’t excuse that display, in front of paying supporters who are braving the cold conditions.

But the play is exactly the same

We haven't lost in six in the league :((n)
Extend it to 8 games , including today, W2, L2, D4.
Highlight our home results in that period W1, L1, D3
It's poor, and you can't say it's a one off

Just quoting Barlaser [in his post-match TV interview] after that dire performance against Cardiff.
:(

Why do people make excuses for us losing football matches. Lawrence, Robson, Karanka and Wilder managed to take them seriously while going for promotion, and automatic promotion as well, not just a playoff place(Wilder aside).

It’s another very poor 0-1 reverse at home against a team we’ve struggled to break down at the Riverside for the best part of a decade. These carbon-copy results and performances are mounting up for Carrick now. He has to do something about it.

I really don't get this 'I'm not bothered it's only a cup game'.

It's a game of professional football when fringe players get an opportunity to impress. More-so, it's when the manager and the coaching staff can claim that everyone is ready when called upon after having worked hard in training.

There's a malaise at the club, people point to our position in the league but it's not masking our failings.

January had the prospect of being a great month for us but we've already been held at home in the league by a relegation threatened team and now we've been dumped out of the cup at home going down without a whimper.

Everything needs to improve and quickly.

In some ways that performance was worse than Stoke, at least we created chances in that game.
You have to give some credit/blame to Blackburn for the match, they are a seriously dull team.

Ultimately though it has no bearing whatsoever on the league. We won our next league game after Stoke.

Totally agree that no-one made any sort of case for being in the first team. McGree was particularly disappointing. McCabe was the only realy bright spark and even then you could see the difference in positivity and drive when Hackney came on.

Negative sideways/backwards passing with little intent in trying to score a goal, no passion, fight, leadership or hurt reflected both on the pitch and touch line. One plan to walk to the byline and pull it back, when the other team on the pitch turns up and stops this Carrick and Woodgate are both tactical inept or to stubborn to change it. All this cumulates in a very boring spectacle leaving the crowd apathetic and unable to get excited resulting in the worst atmosphere at the boro for years. Hes lost the crowd but he comes across as a decent bloke hence receives little criticism, the fans just give up.

Sorry to say questions need to be asked about Carrick and the coaching team. Until we start moving the ball with pace and stop allowing teams a easy ride with our ponderous style of football we won’t be making the playoffs.

I not calling for Carrick out just please tweak the tactics.
