* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Hull Match-Day Thread *

Having watched the whole game, I certainly didn’t come away thinking we lost because of Barlaser. As I said earlier in the thread, I think Crooks at least *appeared* to be marking Delap while they were waiting for the corner to come in.

In other bits, we lacked a bit of quality in the final third. Jones completely spooned a one-on-one wide from 12 yards with the whole goal to aim at. That was actually a ridiculous finish. Crooks put a header straight into the ‘keepers arms, there was two or three goal-mouth scrambles. Greenwood, Jones, Rogers, Crooks AND Engel got into fantastic crossing positions and completely wasted ALL of them. We got the forwards away a few times in the first half and wasted the ball with a poor touch or turned around and played it back.

If we’re apportioning blame then Fry and Dijksteel are more at fault imo. A sh*t punt up the field and a corner sees another two sh*t goals conceded. But let’s be honest, we can talk all we like but the truth is that we have two-thirds of our first-team players missing. McGree and Hackney and O’Brien would be ahead of Barlaser in the pecking order, Smith ahead of Dijksteel, McNair would be in, Forss would be playing games given the shortages up front. Lenihan as well. We can’t even call upon Coburn FFS. That’s 10 of our team. It’s pointless getting upset about it.

No team can survive that many first team players missing and we’re paying the price. We will until they’re back fit or we can make additions in January, whichever comes first. Until then, we suck it up and see what happens.

Just in from the match now and make no mistake they were absolutely dreadful one of the worst sides I’ve seen in some time in that first 45 because in that first half they had nothing, nothing at all.

If jones slots his chance home we win this 3 or 4 easily but….

I agree. Hull were very poor. We are lucky we weren't up against a top side tonight

Just got back and genuinely dumbfounded how Boro lost that game. We were poor in the final third, but the build up play to get into attacking positions very good at times.

Not once did Hull make me concerned and I thought Boro contained them fairly easily. At half time I said to my son we’ll see this game out comfortably. That’s the way the game should have gone. We lose a game we shouldn’t. Bloody football.

We also forget the gilt edged chance Jones missed when put clean through first half. Fine margins. Think I posted that at the same time as Jedi!
That’s the one mean just after we’d scored he puts that away it’s good night Vienna.

Did anyone catch Carrick’s interview with BBC Tees? Just saw someone tweet saying he came across unnecessarily rude and comparing it to how Woodgate would speak to the press when it wasn’t going well.
I caught it in the car and thought Carrick sounded a bit ***ed off. He’ll be wondering how that game was lost. The BBC Reporter mentioned hearing Hull celebrating, which probably ***ed off Carrick even more.

The season kind of feels like it’s slipping away from us now - i don’t like making excuses but having 7 or 8 first team regulars missing at the same time would hit most teams hard. We are really struggling with players such as Hackney McGree Smith Forss and Coburn missing. All of these players, and the others i haven’t mentioned, make a tremendous difference in terms of quality for us from both an offensive and defensive aspect. Until the injury situation improves we are clearly going to continue to struggle.

Carrick doesn't seem to really get too hooked on the league table or other results but it's been a pretty bad week for us in terms of how other results have gone as well.

Might soon be time to start looking down, there’s some Christmas cheer for you😉

The people messaging BBC Tees saying injuries are no excuse are frankly idiots. Those missing are a big part of the team and them not available is killing us at the moment.

I think if I could pick 3 players from the whole squad outside Dieng to have fit and available every game it would be Smith, McGree and Hackney. It’s a big miss.

Early in the season we struggled badly as we had thrown all our new signings in that weren’t really up to it, look at that side that finished tonight it’s almost the same team we had early doors at Coventry etc.
