Having watched the whole game, I certainly didn’t come away thinking we lost because of Barlaser. As I said earlier in the thread, I think Crooks at least *appeared* to be marking Delap while they were waiting for the corner to come in.
In other bits, we lacked a bit of quality in the final third. Jones completely spooned a one-on-one wide from 12 yards with the whole goal to aim at. That was actually a ridiculous finish. Crooks put a header straight into the ‘keepers arms, there was two or three goal-mouth scrambles. Greenwood, Jones, Rogers, Crooks AND Engel got into fantastic crossing positions and completely wasted ALL of them. We got the forwards away a few times in the first half and wasted the ball with a poor touch or turned around and played it back.
If we’re apportioning blame then Fry and Dijksteel are more at fault imo. A sh*t punt up the field and a corner sees another two sh*t goals conceded. But let’s be honest, we can talk all we like but the truth is that we have two-thirds of our first-team players missing. McGree and Hackney and O’Brien would be ahead of Barlaser in the pecking order, Smith ahead of Dijksteel, McNair would be in, Forss would be playing games given the shortages up front. Lenihan as well. We can’t even call upon Coburn FFS. That’s 10 of our team. It’s pointless getting upset about it.
No team can survive that many first team players missing and we’re paying the price. We will until they’re back fit or we can make additions in January, whichever comes first. Until then, we suck it up and see what happens.
