* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Coventry City Match - Day Thread *

Every game I watch I get more and more annoyed by us buying Payero for 5m, then letting him go for nothing, and then selling Tav for 12m, and bringing Mowatt in for nothing. We've effectively gained £7m by losing an unknown quantity in
Payero who was young and potentially creative, as well as our best player who was still getting better. We brought only one player to replace them, who looks like he should be playing in League 1 at best. We then spent that £7m on two strikers who the manger didn't want. Makes no sense.

Never known a centre midfielder who you hear of so less in commentry than Mowatt, the only time you hear of him is from a missed tackle, someone skipping passed him, or him picking up a lopse ball from someone else's work, and doing nothing with it.

He could make 4 subs without blinking!

Clarke- Giles
Mowett - McGee
Smith - Jones
Watmore - Akpom

I still think we’d be better served by 4-2-3-1

Can only make 3 at one I think. Jones Giles and Akpom would be my first 3

I wouldn't be surprised if mowatt retires from professional football in a few months. His legs have gone

I said on deadline day that if we failed to address the midfield issues then it could sound the death knell on the season. Wilder doesn't want his team playing like this, but the players we have mean we can't play the way he wants. Unless he can stop the rot then he might as well let some other mug have a go at getting a tune out of this unbalanced squad. I think we face a stark reality as fans and that is to accept that the club is now run primarily on a financial basis under Gibson and success will come about only if we strike it very lucky and all of our ducks fall in a row. Forget talk of "sporting glory".

I was unbelievably optimistic in May.
The expensive flops had been cleared, wages under control; very little amortisation and awful loan players returned.
Major SC sales even at higher prices. A huge windfall from Spence to come.

The Transfer window was an absolute disaster, after an absolute disaster in January.
The key alignments have all gone wrong from Leadership to Management to Squad to Fans. It is farcical.

To have Howson, Crooks, Mowatt and McGree as your only midfield options is almost comical.
To sign two strikers for money that the manager clearly doesn't want and taking 71% of the total transfer spend to do so is buffoonery.
The recruitment has been shambolic.
Wilder has made a balls of things himself. His job is to organise and motivate. It has been so poor in both aspects.

This summer was marvellous opportunity; another that has been criminally wasted.

I desperately hope we turn this around this second half, but there is a rancid smell about the club at the moment.
