* The Unofficial "Official" 152nd Tees - Wear "Derby" Match-Day Thread *

To be fair he got into dangerous positions 3 times, but he got beaten to the ball by I think Ballard all three times. Like I said he lost his individual battle today. But it’s a learning experience and he’ll come strong again
But even if he is tying up Ballard in a battle for 70 minutes of the match, which I think he did, then he is doing his job.

I always think the sign of a really good player is one who creates an impact even if he is not having his best game. If Josh had been anonymous then I would have agreed with your data driven approach but he most certainly wasn’t anonymous otherwise Ballard wouldn’t have lost his temper and Dan Neill wouldn’t have tried to cripple him and get the vital first yellow, so on this occasion there was more to Coburn’s performance than just the stat.

It’s a complicated world.

He wasn’t tying him up, Ballard is a CH who was doing his job marking him. If it took two Chs to mark him, then that would be a good point, but he had Josh covered on his own
If Josh had been anonymous then I would have agreed with your data driven approach maybe that would be a decent point, but that isn’t what happened today.
To be fair I made my view at the time of the game that he was second best and needed to come off. I then checked the data later after watching the match a second time and it backed up what I felt at the time. Try and watch again in the cold light of day, it wasn’t his best day by a long shot and I say that as a fan of his. He didn’t really have very much positive influence today. He didn’t have a shot on target, didn’t create for others, lost most of his aerial challenges, made 4 successful passes all game and gave the ball away too much.

If Ballard had had a poor game Josh could still have had a couple of goals by tapping in Jones’s crosses, which is testimony to Coburns mentality. But that has to be balanced with Coburns silliness on 45 mins which would have been a great excuse for the ref to even things up. I think Coburn was actually frustrated at being second best to Ballard that kicked all that off. He’ll learn though

Sorry but how can you say that we won 4-0 so what battle did he lose.
Ignore him.
Coburn was integral to todays success.
He stuck to his role perfectly.
Its a team game and a team mentality.
He`l be better for today in terms of experience - as will the rest of the players.
Carrick`s tactics, techniques, methodology, beliefs and a holistic approach to man-management, has only just started bearing fruit.
Expect much more to come.

'It is a joy': David Prutton predicts who will come out on top - Sunderland or Middlesbrough

However, Boro haven’t faced such a talented Sunderland side in a very long time. Jack Clarke is unstoppable at the moment and the likes of Niall Huggins and Dan Ballard have firmed up the backline very well.

Tomorrow’s clash will certainly be one of the Black Cats’ hardest challenges this season, but a packed-out Stadium of Light adds a twelfth man and I would be very surprised if the players don’t come out all guns blazing.

3-2 prediction.

Obviously fired a few blanks then.

Who the _____ is David "Pudding" Prutton ?

Rarely, and it’s pointless creating space if he’s just given the ball away again. We can’t hurt them without the ball. If you think his movement created the space for other people, then Lath did a better job of that, although Sunderland’s heads had gone by that stage
And their legs ... You missed that bit out

Has prutton ever predicted a boro win ??

On watching the game again I think when it mattered first half barlaser was not fully at the races, he lost the ball by dawdling on it and played a few poor balls which allowed them to hit us on the break when we had committed players forwards, he really needs to tighten that part of his game up if he is to become a first team regular.

‘Expect much more to come’.

I know we’ve just panned the mackems in their own back yard but it’s a long long time since I’ve been so optimistic about our future or enjoyed watching the team so much.

I quite enjoyed how we were playing 7 or 8 months ago. We are starting to get back to those levels now

But I think there was a feeling early this season that maybe last season we just got a bit lucky with Chuba hitting form and picking up some top quality loan players to fit around him.

The change in players and the recent run is showing that not to be the case and the fact we are passing our way effortlessly through teams with our own largely unknown (for now) players is great to watch.

We played some of our best football prior to the arrival of archer and Ramsey. If you are playing well then of course your players form will be high.

The only people with the views you are reporting are the panicking ninnies. Since Luton away and the start of this season, we have had a patch where we had some key injuries and nee players to embed. But we stuck to our philosophy and rode through it. That’s as it should be. While some fans called for the managers head and claimed the players that have won 5 on the bounce aren’t good enough. Our fans need to get on board with the new philosophy instead of panicking it the first run of bad results

Agree with all you say but it is still a good sign that the club can recycle the squad and that Carrick can adapt to the new players and get them playing good football. That’s the hallmark of a solid club with a very good manager, let’s hope it continues 👍

Its nearly a week later, but it was fair to call it a "Derby" lyke.
Never seen a pile of deckchairs taken apart so quickly and comprehensively in a long time.
Must get the red carpet ready when they come to our place for a parmo.
