The reason people are stocking up is

because they have nothing else to do .
Holidays gone /televised sport cancelled/trips out a bit of a worry/job prospects not looking good /stockmarket crash/self isolation worrys etc/

Just been for my weekly shop.
No potatoes, fruit and veg almost wiped out. No tins other than tinned artichokes and a couple of others. No chicken. Bought one of the last two packs of sausages. **** sake.

Was in Costco earlier when they restocked the loo roll. The number of people going to the checkouts with several lots of 40 rolls was astounding. I must admit that I was tempted to buy some, it’s easy to get carried along by a crowd.

can you swear on here? because the F***ing aresholes are just that.. ****..

edit, I wanted some kitchen roll yesterday, there was 1 pack left. £3.40 for 3 super strong ones.. and the soap isle was a sea of emptiness. *****

Just been to Superdrug with Mrs Gnome for paracetamol (only place we could find any), lady at the till said they'd had a hand sanitiser delivery yesterday and while she was trying to put them on the shelves she was surrounded by asreholes snatching them off her before she got there, and going to the till with armfuls. And she said it wouldn't have been any use as an antiviral. Utter, utter idiots. As well as asreholes. Mind you, now's the time to buy shares in sanitiser manufacturers.

Hopefully the supermarkets will be rationing more strictly next week. I mean half the perishables are going to go to waste. People will be cooking meals to stick in freezer hopefully.

also... I had to go to 3 shops today to buy some eggs.!! ffs!!
Supermarkets won't ration as they are currently quids in, yes people are **** holes and perhaps more government intervention is required, but equally the bosses of the supermarkets have to take responsibility, I mean a poxy letter saying please don't buy as much as you are doing is hardly going to stop people is it???

Our Tesco is rationing items like hand sanitiser to 5 bottles per person.

The ironic thing about that stuff is that it's just as effective to use soap and water, or washing up liquid even, which is £££ less.

and now my mother is stocking piling pain killers because....... everyone else is. I give up

Yes they're already rationing to an extent. Ibuprofen/paracetamol were 2 per person last week in Tesco. They're going to have to ration fresh fruit and veg meat and dairy if people carry on.

I think there’s always a limit on paracetamol, I once tried to buy 4 boxes to stock up first aid bag for football team, some for holiday and some for home but was told they could only sell me 2 boxes at a time by law, prevention of overdose apparently.

paracetamol is a go to for would be suicides - 30 500mg tablets is pretty much certain to do the job if they don't catch it in time (and it might still be enough if they do). Anaestetist mate of mine says never ever take more than 10 in a day. So they're limited anyway. You can buy more where there's a pharmacist present. Still doesn't stop people stocking up if a whole family turns up and they all take their allowance.
