Some right beer and establishment snobs on here😂. I like a rough and ready pub.

I've always known it as the Hairy Lemon. It's always been my pre match pub when up north. I've never seen any bother and it's always a laugh. Also lager is cheap (always surprises me when coming from down south).

I spend a couple of hours prior to the Derby game. It did get rammed though (excuse the pun). I'm sure they used to put out free sausage and chips back in the day? Those days are gone.

We walked back into town after the game and the only pubs that had anyone in were the Lemon and the Central banging out Kareoke. The rest of town looked like it was a ghost town.

Only been in this place a handful of times in each guise and there was fights every time. The people in it looked rough as a boot, some in a right state. Wasn't it Huxters for a while as well?
Huxters was further up opposite the entrance to the Cleveland Centre/BHS, think its a Tesco now!

I would never go into a pub where I thought there was going to be chew, why would I? This is a thread about a pub I go to pre match and have done for far too long.

Canny pub, decent location. I thought the hairy lemon was a crap name when when it was called the hairy lemon.. then when they changed it to the pig iron I thought crap name.. better when it was the hairy lemon.

Now it's the hairy lemon.. I think it was better as the pig iron.

Better still as the The Iron Pig!

Definitely a great location. It's just about walkable to the Riverside when you've had a skinful and have to hold a lager induced wee (every 20mins once seal broke😂).

"Pub snobs"?? Actually, probably a little these days, but I've been in some pubs in London, Liverpool and the East End of Glasgow that'd make the Pig Iron look like a posh cocktail bar.

The Glasgow ones were particularly special!! Bairds Bar being one of them, me being an English, non-catholic in there was pretty interesting! Sighthill Bowling Club was also an eye opener. (Both closed now i believe)

Have a wander in there most match days and always a good crowd and a great atmosphere. As others have said, the only issue is they let too many people in! Funny enough, plenty of young lasses get in there too because they know they are not going to be hassled by perma-tanned, cage fighting, roid headed, plastic teethed peacocks.

However, if you prefer over priced, strawberry flavoured pish water just so you can tell the lads you've always been a IPA / Pale Ale drinker, its probably not the best place for you.

Been in countless times, well into the hundereds and think ive maybe seen one cross word. Its rough and ready but good entertainment at the same time. Often go in with the wife before heading elsewhere. Its only The Hairy Lemon for a week apparently, it must be some sort of anniversary.
