The New Beatles Single

Not really a football fan at all by all accounts. Anyway, I like Paul. And I liked George. And I liked Ringo until I heard he'd voted for Brexit (fao @The_Lizards_Jumpers )

I like Paul, a lot, but John is someone I really dislike. Or rather I dislike the beatification of him by certain people, despite being quite a horrible bully and hypocrite during his lifetime.

Lots of negativity to Lennon on here, and I get it, but he was a three dimensional person. Yes he was a complicated, messed up man with a very dark side to his character. But he also was very talented, authentic in his desire for a better world and prepared to sacrifice his image to do his bit. There are many John Lennons, including of course a gifted artist.

As for the song, it was never gonna be anything more than a nostalgic nod to their sound, it was never going to be a classic track. It does what it says on the tin, delivers a late Beatles sounding song, that would have been OK had it come out in the 70s but maybe sounds of it's era but not particularly in a good way when heard today. It's not awful, it sounds like a track that could've been squeezed onto the Let It Be album and not sound out of place, but not stand out either against the title track, Across the Universe or Get Back. It'll probably only get a spin in this house when I play the new red and blue albums.

Yeah mean he was prepared to stay in bed in a nice hotel, not before the maid had made the bed of course.

Talented man, lousy human being. Interesting that you dont give people like Boris Johnson the benefit of being a complex character, only people who make decent tunes.

that isn't the only action he ever did, it was a bit contrite to be honest.

I'm not giving him the benefit of any doubt, I accept that he was violent, abusive and a drug addict. Those are terrible qualities. But he undoubtedly had talent, if you want to use Johnson as a comparison then fine, what was Johnson's talent that shone a ray of light on a dark world?

He did have many good altruistic and empathic beliefs, and didn't once condemn tens of thousands of old people to death, can this be said of Johnson?

Happy to engage on the who is worse Johnson or Lennon thread any time you choose, but it seems a really peculiar stance for you to take.

It's not a Johnson V's Lennon contest, I could have picked any number of people, it was an example.

It's just that you in particular seem to be very keen to defend Lennon because he wrote a few good tunes, and said a few nice things. You seem unable to extend that charitable status to other people.
