For someone like me who has voted both ways over the years, and voted Labour this time, for me it comes down to how do you define the "fair share" that everyone talks about. I have a good well paying job that I have worked hard to achieve having left school at 16 and starting on a YTS (I'm 55 now), and I feel that I can look myself in the mirror and say I easily pay way more than my "fair share" of taxes. If you add up my Income Tax, NI, Council Tax, Tax on Fuel, VAT, etc. its a big amount in both percentage and actual terms that goes to back into the government coffers be that national or local. To be honest, I dont mind paying if its being spent wisely and for the betterment of society but there are still lots out there not paying their fair share, and not just at the top end of society either. Look at your typical high street these days and the "service industry" businesses that occupy them, many of which are cash only. Are most of them paying their "fair share" compared to PAYE employees..........I very much doubt it.
