The Main Problem Yesterday

We didn’t have OPTIONS

———————Dieng——————
Jones—Smith—Lenihan—Bangura
————McNair—O’Brien————
——--Silvera—Azaz—McGree——
———————Lath——————-

Pace is key, when you play that system. The fact Lath and Bangura were injured in the first 15 minutes of the first game, and Jones’ absence last night really blunted us

Id say having half a squad was a bit of a conundrum . 🥴
Plus we’ve been screaming out for a striker for the championship nevermind playing a prem side .
Having 2 lads playing for their country was a **** take also while their team mate try to get to a semi final . How committed is mcgree to the mighty Boro ?

You know when you go to a wedding and you see that bloke on the dancefloor (who's obviously been dragged up by his missus) who doesn't have a rhythmical bone in his body but he's giving it a go and looking really awkward?

That's how some of our players look when they are trying to play this triangular short pass style we have adopted. it feels sometimes like they think their job is done when they get the ball passed to them and manage to pass it to another person successfully. we don't look comfortable playing that way.

Understandably less committed than he is to his country? Are we really trying to criticise a player for playing for his country in a significant tournament for them? Not his fault it’s in f*cking January.

There's a decent argument that an 11 of our not match fit / away is a better 11 than yesterdays
We had a fair few of our available players not fully fit too! Howson struggled, Coburn didn’t start.. O’Brien is only just back and Forss isn’t fully up to speed yet.

‘Square pegs in round holes’ - folks used to love saying that on here.. probably one of the few times it actually applied last night.. and not a peep!

P issing about at the back and playing it backwards started to really grate on me, its obvious Chelsea have super quick players, so I wish we'd done what we did at the Riverside - ball over the top down the channel. only issue being, we didn't have Jones or Lathe to chase🤬

I'd say the main problem about yesterday is people on here not being able to figure out why a Prem League team that cost hundreds of millions playing at home beat an injury ravaged championship team that cost a very small fraction of that.

Forget the score yesterday, celebrate that Boro made it to a semi final, beat a good Chelsea team in the first leg, and now has eleven days to prepare to win 40 points in an 18 game season.

The main problem yesterday is we cant defend for sh it

We cant defend in the championship let alone at SB

Did great to make the semis the home leg was terrific. We move on and keep trying to improve

Ben Chilwell returning was a massive advantage for Chelsea. His return allowed Colwill to return to CB and meant Chelsea had a huge outlet on the left.

Hopefully he stays fit till the end of the season as he should be first choice LB for the Euros.

Half the squad is out.. massive holes in the side against a billion pound premier league squad! Playing from the back?

no recognised strikers. crocked midfielders.. players filling in unfamiliar positions.

we had a go at it the best we could.

Imagine if we had just tried to asrehole it and still got stiffed?

How about getting beat 2-0 at home and 3-0 away.. a larger goal deficit and no wins. Better?

Exactly, take the positives.

The first leg was unbelievable, one of the Riverside great nights. They dont come along often so for me that was the icing on the cake.

Unfortunately the second leg played out how the football gods wished it to be.

MK Dons beat Wimbledon too.

Football lost that night
