The Last of Us TV Show

Just my personal opinion. I’m looking for stuff to happen. The fact you had to put in brackets how the main story progressed “in bags” possibly tell its own story. It is slow, sorry mate but we all want different stuff from drama series, if you enjoyed it then fill your boots, I’m happy for you. For me, I thought it was slow and the worst episode so far.

Define "stuff"? Yes it's your opinion and I'm not trying to downplay it, I'm just curious as to what you look for when deciding if something is good or bad.

The last episode was only slow if you take away the dialogue. The story is already known and in respect of that story, this episode progressed it pretty damn fast.

Well I hadn’t really put my finger on it but I think Nano may be right. It’s a zombie apocalypse drama, so a bit of action with the zombies wouldn’t go amiss. Last week’s was mostly a gay love story which was produced beautifully but in my opinion didn’t really feed much into the main story. Then this week’s was about the two main characters (I think?) getting to know each other better and getting into a spot of bother and there wasn’t a huge amount of “action”.

But at some point there does actually need to be some zombies in my opinion.

In a way I’m now starting to wonder if it is actually for me. I will stick with it probably for the whole of the first series regardless but not sure how optimistic I am about loving it beyond that.

This.
I guess i just wanted more action, its very slow and i understand why i get that they're introducing characters and their back story etc but this is a story that involves zombies/cannibals/monsters/hostile humans whatever you want to call them and we're not seeing enough for the action fan, so i think i'll give it this series but im not finding myself gripped all week waiting for the next episode like i have done with shows in the past it's just becoming another show...

TLOU has never really been about a zombie apocalypse, it’s just set during one. I’ve absolutely loved their retelling of the game so far.
It is starting to feel like the biggest advocates of the show are the people who already know the story from the game (and TFG’s girlfriend). And the rest of us who are just viewing it as a standalone show are a bit apathetic so far.

I think it depends on your expectations, we knew what to expect going in. You seemed to be expecting a walked dead type of show and it was never going to be that. Not sure if they marketed it as that as I avoided everything before the first episode.

There’s a podcast I’ve listened to for years that are covering the show, only 1 of the 5 have played the game but they all really like the show.

I kind of understand where Atypical is coming from.

Thought the first couple of episodes were very good. However, as someone who never played the game, I do think the last episode was quite slow.

I'm definitely sticking with it though as I always give a series at least 1 full series before giving up.

If I’m honest, what I wanted was something that would stand up against the excitement/action of the early seasons of TWD but then not go down the boring vortexes TWD went down and not be dragged out for 10 series if it was clearly starting to flunk after 5.

The whole “character building” stuff is all well and good if it’s headed somewhere but, in the example of last week, they built up two characters for a whole show then bumped them both off at the end.

I could handle last night’s episode being slow if it had been episode 3, perhaps, as I still feel that the first two episodes are the best two so far. I want to see a few zombies getting shot in the face or their heads getting hacked off with a piece of piano wire if I’m honest.

I think something I was worried about after episode 3 was how they were going to tell the rest of the story in only 9 episodes but episode 4 pushed that along really quickly. Maybe even too quickly, I’d have been happy for them to draw the Ellie and Joel relationship growth out a bit longer but it seems like they bonded a lot in one episode.

People who played the game thought the episode was really fast moving and people who never thought it was slow 😂

And yet it’s pulling massive viewing figures and highly rated, by audience and critics,
suggesting that the rest of people aren’t that apathetic.

Viewing figures are up again this week and it's on a stronger upward trajectory than House of Dragon was at this stage.

My dad even promoted it to our family group chat 😂

I actually quite like the flexible run times, although this is the shortest until the finale. 2 hour long episodes which I think will focus on Sam and Henry, along with We the People and the mystery threat

  • Episode 1: 81 minutes
  • Episode 2: 53 minutes
  • Episode 3: 76 minutes
  • Episode 4: 46 minutes
  • Episode 5: 59 minutes
  • Episode 6: 59 minutes
  • Episode 7: 56 minutes
  • Episode 8: 51 minutes
  • Episode 9: 43 minutes

Hard to say, the positive reviews may all be coming from those who've played the game. Its been well marketed so rising viewing figures don't surprise me, I'm just giving my honest opinion. I WANT to come to the end of the season thinking its been brilliant and looking forward to season 2, but after a good start I've not been as blown away by this week or last.

I'd just give up now as i genuinely don't think this show is for you.

The suggestion that all the positive reviews are fans of the game is just silly, it's HBO - they make arguably the highest quality TV shows.

Critical reviews are almost universally positive, not just audiences, and I doubt all the critics played the games as well. 97% on RT from all critics, 91% from all top critics doesn't happen if a few people played the game wrote reviews.

Pretty much everyone I know is enjoying this show, hardly any of them played the games. I don't think the show will struggle because a few blokes on a footy forum don't enjoy it as much as they thought 😂

Hmm, you seem to have a strong personal attachment to this show mate. I'm just giving my honest opinion, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Don't be offended.

I don’t want to be condescending, but this isn’t a zombie apocalypse story. This is 20 years after where settlements have learned to live with a element of safety

This is story within that world. You have put expectations into it that will never be achieved. It doesn’t feel like you are giving the story a chance. This a story within a world where there is danger outside of the qz (as well as within) and a story about 2 people who are strangers and their relationship grows

Out of interest why does there need to be zombies?

Who are The raiders? The group that tried to invade the street in E3 but were seen off by electric fences and bombs?
Did I miss something or will it be revealed later?

I'm not offended in the slightest it just seems you're in an uphill struggle to enjoy a show which is getting tons of plaudits and trying to trivialise it by suggesting all the good reviews are written by the gamers. It just doesn't seem to be the show for you from your posts.

They're new to the show, it's suggested from the episode they have taken over a FEDRA QZ. In the game there was an ambush cutscene and they didn't really have a leader, so Kathleen is a new construct. They're hunting Henry, who is character from the game. You see Henry and sam at the end of episode 4- and they were referenced throughout the episode.

It could well be that they call back to those you mentioned but I think probably not but who knows

There doesn't, in reality the danger would be the people trying to survive but you'll have to go through infected areas to do that, but last of us infected are much more deadly than the slow shuffling "just walk a bit faster than them" zombies of Romero and TWD, so it makes sense that you would avoid them at all costs. 1 is deadly, hundreds unstoppable, TWD literally had People surrounded by tens of thousands of them and literally directed them where they wanted them to go.

Then there's the fact that there are multiple types in TLoU...
