The Last of Us TV Show

I love things returning to weekly release, even on streaming.

Builds up the anticipation again and actually lets you discuss and speculate over things with people before the plot overtakes it.

I look forward to every Monday right now.
I have been guilty of refusing to watch things until they were finished but I've watched TLOU weekly since release and I am looking forwards to the next one. I find that when I binge I don't have the concentration to fully invest my attention for multiple episodes and some strong starts for shows my attention has petered out a bit (even if the quality hasn't dropped) so I'm going to make a conscious effort to not watch more than 1 or 2 episodes of something per day.

Great series!!! It is everything that the Walking dead should have been.

Episode 3 is brilliant.
I think alot of people forget just how good some TWD episodes were. There was some absolute classics, cliffhangers, emotional ones. It was an epic show with brilliant episodes, but imo it was just dragged on too long and alot of people think of the show in a negative light now

Yep - agree with that!
Sons of Anarchy too! It went on too long. It should have been shorter and much more like Mayor of Kingstown - much grittier and real

The first (very short) season of The Walking Dead was good, but season 2 was awful.

It's been a very hit and miss show that has definitely ran far longer than it should have.

I've given up on it multiple times, only to restart when the fatigue has worn off.

FTWD is similar, whilst the World Beyond was utter dogshit.

1st 3 series of TWD were great (except the middle of S2 where they spent way too long on the farm). S4 onwards they had killed a lot of characters off and they started introducing characters that got killed before you started caring for them. The zombies stopped being a threat and after that it was just repetitive with move location, meet new groups/people, they end up being bad guys etc. There was also no end in sight. I watched 7 or 8 series but I had stopped caring during S4.

Part of me wants to get back into watching TWD. Loved the first 6 seasons but then thought season 7 was average and didn't bother with season 8. I basically know how the show ends but imagine I missed a lot of decent stuff.

I think I'd be able to more fairly compare it to TLOU which really has been brilliant so far. Episode 3 was so good.

Exactly this. I absolutely LOVED it for 4-5 years, then it’s just went a bit rubbish and I very quickly fell out of love with it. If they’d stopped it after say 5-6 series I really think I’d be saying it was the best TV show ever.

Short episode this week but i enjoyed it for the development of the relationship between Joel and Ellie, you can see how they're binding and he's starting to see himself a bit more of a father figure which is important for setting the context of the decisions Joel makes with Ellie later.

I like how it introduced various elements from the games - Ellie's dad-jokes and Ellie squeezing through gaps and Joel having to find a long way round

Looks like Sam & Henry episode next week. Maybe over 2 eps?

It has to be in the slow side for me for the character development

I thought episode 4 was a great nod the game as a show. Fans of the game will have enjoyed that

Fans definitely will. My girlfriend still really enjoyed it and said the only downside for her was it was much shorter. She has no exposure to the games

I don't think it was a fans episode or anything like that; it's setting the scene for Sam & Henry as well as providing character development of Joel & Ellie's relationship

Obviously non gamers can't play DLC so the show will have to pack that Left Behind subtext in somehow and I think this is how they did it -being in the museum got mentioned previously too

The part about (episode spoiler) having killed someone's before... (storyline spoiler)

To answer this, we’ll need to do a little bit of theorycrafting based on our knowledge of the original The Last of Us game, specifically the Left Behind DLC, and perhaps even a little deeper than that, the American Dreams tie-in comic.

During the events of the aforementioned comic, Ellie has a couple of close encounters with both FEDRA and the Fireflies, but doesn’t outright kill anyone, so we can likely rule that out. Our attention then turns to the Left Behind DLC. Huge spoilers ahead for the ending of this sub-story, by the way.

Left Behind ended on a simultaneously ambiguous, but obvious note. Ellie and Riley have both been bitten and have presumed that they will turn into one of the infected. They choose to spend their remaining lucid moments together and wait for the cordyceps virus to take over.

This is where the credit rolls, but of course, there is subtext to unpack. Ellie would have tragically discovered that she is immune, while Riley would have succumbed. The pair were presumably alone while waiting it out, so Ellie may have had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her friend down or risk being torn to pieces.

Given that Ellie was wiping tears from her eyes before making her revelation to Joel about having killed before, we suspect that an infected Riley was the most likely culprit. The caveat of course, is that The Last of Us series hasn’t shied away from deviating from the source material, so perhaps we simply don’t know who it was that Ellie had to take down.

Have to say I found episode 4 pretty crap/slow. I will stick with it but can’t say this week’s episode blew me away. Just my opinion, am sure some people really enjoyed it and that’s fine.

What is it you are looking for? Last episode you wanted more main story progression, this episode had bags of it (bond between Joel and Elle becoming stronger and new characters) and great dialogue.

Every episode can't be 100mph.

Just my personal opinion. I’m looking for stuff to happen. The fact you had to put in brackets how the main story progressed “in bags” possibly tell its own story. It is slow, sorry mate but we all want different stuff from drama series, if you enjoyed it then fill your boots, I’m happy for you. For me, I thought it was slow and the worst episode so far.

Thought it was another good episode where plenty happened.
Joel's growing to see Ellie as a daughter figure, despite claiming she's cargo at the start of the episode, warming to her bit by bit.
Learning pieces about their backstories.
The indication that plenty of problems in the post-apocalyptic society have been caused by "governments" ruling too harshly rather than because of the infected.

What I can only assume is a massive tendril growth under the community of "We the people"

Plenty of Easter Eggs that players of the game will love.

My only real criticism is that it was slightly too short, the ambush scene felt very low budget and too small for me, and I really don't find it believable that the actress playing Kathleen would be leading a community.
She looks on the verge of tears all the time, not sure why some of the reviews are claiming she's "terrifying".

yeah, I think they packed quite a lot into the episode size, especially character development.

Ye lots happened for sure. You could go at a faster pace but if you did then the character development would be sacrificed and the decisions later in the series will seem off.

On top of that I also think the slowness is deliberate at times anyway. In a world where you don’t stand a chance if you get infected then you have to approach everything with care and I think the show has done well to make you immerse in the tense moment
