The Government plans to bring in photo ID for elections

There have been pilot schemes back in 2018 and 2019

2018 Pilot Scheme

2019 Pilot Scheme

There are clearly issues in bringing this in and those concerns are being rightly raised and it is clear that it isn`t as simple as just getting photo ID to be able to vote because as outlined in both the links, there are people who do not have those types of ID (People with learning disabilities, the blind and Trans/Non-Binary people)
Can’t photos just be added to polling cards? Glastonbury festival were able to put a photo on a ticket

Living in a country where carrying ID is compulsory and needed for most official business. from getting a driving licence, to enrolling in school, to picking a parcel up from the Post Office, I have absolutely no problem with it, and don't have an issue with the principle of having to prove who you are

I had to pay for it as part of the residency application, but the process was easy and cheap. I believe for Spanish citizens it's automatic and free, much like the allocation of your NI number or NHS number in the UK.

Like I say it’s devils advocate. If only life was as simple as taking our word for it
The point is, bringing in photo ID potentially disenfranchises thousands. I think I've shown that there is no evidence for voting fraud on the scale that would swing elections, not least because it is so difficult to organise. A few odd fraudulent votes might get through under the present system, but you don't deal with that by, potentially, having a system where tens/hundreds of thousands are unable to vote.

Call me bonkers but why can't we just have a system where the various leaders of the different parties are listed on the ballot paper and whoever gets the most wins?
Their system is not so different to ours really because despite the president being “in power” the senate and the house of congress can still be controlled by either party which can severely limit how much power the president has to get things done.
