The board is a depressing place currently…

I’d be delighted if Carrick turns it round. The evidence suggests he won’t though.

As for depressing, the last 14 games with capitulation followed by calamity after calamity epitomise depressing.

The standard this year in the league below the top 3 down is as poor as it's ever been.

We started the season with 25 million quids worth of CFs , a 15 to 20mil CM , and a 20million right wing on loan playing.
Not including Morris, Rav, Mcgree, Forss ...

14 points off 4th is sub expectation

Losing 19 points from winning positions is bordering on inept.

And yet.. ....

Start Illing-Junior LW, and he looks like his best bits videos ..
Iheanacho does a chuba at no 10 , and Whittaker hits the ground running ..
We could be the form team going into the playoffs?

It's the hope that kills you ... ; - )

I’d suggest you watch it again. It’s bad positioning and an even worse reaction. He’s got eyes on it all the way.

The criminality though is Ayling getting absolutely skinned again.

If Smith hadn’t just retired, that may have seen the end of Ayling too.

I have watched it again thanks.
I don’t agree with you - it’s ok to do that you know

I guess not surprising after the run we had but I had a wee look on the Sunderland Board and b***r me they are as unhappy as hell moaning about dropping points in the last two home games the style of football and multiple threads on the terrible home atmosphere. I thought they would be well with happy punching above their weight in the league and they have just won their cup final. I think football fans just like a good moan lol

Hmm let’s talk about the most recent history, for example, the past 18 years. Three stints in the Premier League, FA Cup final, stint in Europe. That would be the mighty Hull City of course. You’re not even a City
Top marks for actually tryin Brian.

You have had 3 stints in the top flight in the last 18 years. Totalling 5 seasons.
You were relegated in 3 of them and your highest finish was 16th.
But that’s the same as your entire history.
5 seasons in your entire history.

We had as many PL seasons under Bryan Robson, Steve McLaren, as managers as you’ve had in your history.

You’ve made 1 FA Cup Semi Final in your history.
You’ve made 1 League Cup Semi Final in your history.

Your one season in Europe was by default as a losing FA Cup finalist. You’ve never got through the Playoff round and have played 2 ties in your history.

And Everything but the girl are not from Hull.

You cemented promotion when you brought back Giles, you just need patience now to wait for his magic.
Oh Brian, we did not do it for football reasons silly, we wanted to provide Ryan with a place of safety on humanitarian grounds for now. The poor lad was clearly being kept captive against his free will, he need’s love and kindness, not to be held in a circuses tiger cage.

I hate to be churlish, however, you were also relegated from every stint you have spent in the top flight too, that's kinda how it goes if you don't remain up there forever.

You are just looking too far back to be relevant, we have the most illustrious recent history however you dress it up.

EBTG were based in Hull when formed and the band is even named after a shop that was down Beverley Road in Hull, how more conclusive could it be?

Nice try though.

Your first paragraph isn’t true. We spent two seasons in 1995-7 and then 10 successive seasons in the premier from 1999-2009 unless of course your churlishness extends to a truism that when we got relegated from the PL we were in the PL.

So much Carrick out talk. We sound like Mackems or Geordies. All this talk of us deserving to be higher up the league than we are. It sounds entitled.

We are Boro. We aren’t loaded. Yeah it would be nice to be promoted but it’s also nice to be financially secure and still in the mix.

Maybe we should judge Carrick at the end of the season. And maybe we shouldn’t be spending all our energy wishing him away so we can jump on the next manager merry-go-round. Jesus, what if we get another Monk? Or some other plank who signs a load of duds and we end up 16th or something daft.

The grass isn’t always greener. Losing ever week in the Prem might not be as much fun as some think it would be. Saying that it is apparent that sitting just outside the playoffs with some new signings to come in isn’t fun for some either.

The last couple of months of the season is going to be a rollercoaster - just enjoy it lads. If we get in the playoffs then we can dream… don’t write us off just yet!!!
It's got nothing to do with being "entitled" and everything to do with recognising the strength of our squad and how poorly it's been managed.

Yes, I typed too quickly but have changed it from season to stint.

Let’s examine the strength of our squad according to posters comments then

New keeper
Ayling - legs have gone and Dijksteel injured
No left back of any quality
Fry - not being managed well by Woodgate
Edmundson - Stealing a living according to some sages. Should never have been bought
Lenihan - Who he?
Morris - Shining light
Hackney - overrated. Doesn’t work hard enough.
McGree - sick note, lost his mojo
Howson - see Ayling
Doak - Off the boil
(Lath - gone)
Conway - see McGree
Azaz- Too lightweight. Doesn’t tackle
Whittaker - new although some have written him off already virtually (one quote Ashley Fletcher mark 2)
illing Junior - new
Iheanacho new

So with that assessment of the squad I’d say 7th was about right pushing for a playoff place.

I'm not really interested in comments that have been cherry picked from the board. We all know this squad should up there pushing for top two. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

No - I believe you are kidding yourself if you think we should be pushing for top 2. Seriously we are nowhere near the likes of the teams with parachute payments and Prem experience

We’ve shown over two games against Burnley that our squad is as good as there’s. We’ve beaten Sheff United and no one will tell me Sunderland’s squad is better than ours, at least up until they signed Le Fee and we lost ELL.

Our failure is very clear the poor management of our squad.

Have you heard of the now disbanded Hull group, "The Talks" - a Ska band.
They made two albums;

"Hulligans"

and

"Commoners, Peers, Drunks and Thieves"

Saw them loads of times. They were brilliant live.

I thought you said you weren't interested in cherry picking? This League anybody is capable of beating anybody on their day and obviously we are no exception. Plymouth beat Sunderland, Leeds lost to Millwall ( twice!) and Blackburn. The quality of the squad shines through in the end though and it is no co-incidence that the top 3 are made up of the two who came down last season plus Leeds.

I'm not cherry picking, i'm specifically talking about our results against the top 4. As we're discussing the merits of our squad in comparison to theirs.

I did forget the Leeds to be honest, so i'll give you that.
