The Ashes - TEST 2

Robinson is a funny one, his average his ridiculously good but he doesn’t seem to be a match winner like broad is. Similar to woakes but is he the man if Anderson can’t get the ball to move?

We really need wood fit as the only paceman in the ranks. Archer seems to be a done deal, the modern day Shane bond or Ryan Harris, just never fit!

As long as pope is out I’m happy, a just seems like a massive downgrade on Ian bell who was always on the throws of being dropped from a much stronger batting line up, what we would give for an in his prime Jonathan trott to see up the number 3 slot, something which has never been filled never mind the openers!

Forgot about this v New Zealand

Similar to the Bairstow incident?

Not really, given it was at the end of the over completely different situations also they’ve admitted it was premeditated therefore against the spirit of the game like a mankad but without any advantage being taken at all.

I'm a big fan of Bairstow, and I know he wants to keep wicket, but we don't get the best of him as a batsman at 7, so I'd go with

1. Literally anybody, anybody, but Crawley
2. Duckett
3. Root (sorry Joe, that's where you need to be)
4. Brooks
5. Bairstow
6. Stokes
7. Foakes
8. Woakes
9. Broad
10. Tongue
11. Wood

Anderson's time is up

I particularly like the Stokes - Foakes - Woakes alliteration ;)

Swap out Woakes for young Ahmed if we're feeling up for it and want a specialist spinner, though Root is no mug now. Can't see a spinner being needed at Headlingley

...... and Young Jonny looks like he could do with losing a couple of stone - he seems to be carrying a bit of excess timber

Jonny’s only keeping wicket because that’s what he’s been asked to do.
He knows he isn’t the best and would be perfectly happy if he wasn’t keeping as long as he was playing.

A few people on here being very hypocritical I think, if boro concede a goal having put the ball out for an injury and the opposition don’t return and score will we just shrug out shoulders and say ‘well it’s within the laws, we were just naive putting it out.’

Heard a good one earlier in TMS that the duckett dismissal should have gone down as a no ball as the keeper was down the leg side rather than in his usual position meaning Aus had 3 players on the leg side behind square, interesting take on it as that isn’t allowed in the rules.
That’s plain incorrect from TMS. The keeper doesn’t count. It requires more than two other than the keeper.

“28.4 Limitation of on side fielders

At the instant of the bowler’s delivery there shall not be more than two fielders, other than the wicket-keeper, behind the popping crease on the on side.”

I think he's a very very capable keeper and he enjoys doing it - but as I said, we don't get the best out of him as a batsman if he's in at 7

As an aside, I don't think Foakes is the world class keeper that loads think he is but is probably the best there is - fitting him in the eleven is the problem because despite my selection, Crawley and Pope will always be picked as they have compromising photos of Rob Key - that can be the only reason

Yup.

"It's within the laws" certainly doesn't absolve all sins as you say. It was clear to everyone Bairstow thought the ball was dead. No attempt from him to claim any advantage whatsoever.

To go off on a slight tangent, the Tories do lots of stuff that's within the law/rules, but is still morally repugnant.

Any sporting contest should be decided on ability and/or tactics within the spirit of the game. But this was neither. It was just sneaky opportunism.

It was a ***** trick. They should be embarrassed with themselves.

Wasn’t there a story before his upturn in form where he basically said the opposite and that not keeping knocked his confidence?

Not looking to overplay this, but Harry’s surname is Brook, not Brooks. Jim Maxwell always gets this wrong, and should be politely corrected off-air, in the spirit of the game. He’s a good man (as are you) so wouldn’t be offended by a polite intervention

No offence taken - knew that but a few too many rioja's influenced the typing finger 🍷

If we were whiter than white then fair enough, let us slate the Aussies, but Broad has form for not playing within the spirit of the rules…

Eh?

If you think that's the same then you need your eyes testing or are completely missing the point.

Unless it's the wrong clip and there's another one where there's actually a pause, the umpire goes to hand the bowler his cap and the batman pointedly grounds his bat before leaving his crease.

And then Bairstow tried it.
