The abuse that Bettinelli has been getting

Opinions aside on his ability for the moment, does anyone else find the very personal, mocking abuse directed at him recently, distasteful?

I've seem a multitude of nicknames for him, none of them funny, and some of the comments cross the line for me.

Criticism of natural of course and no footballer is immune to it, but some people seem to get a kick from it.

Thats always been the case though Jonny, but I do agree with you, some of it is a bit distasteful. You have to assume he is doing his best and if he isn't good enough, that's one thing. No need for the abuse. Social media allows people to behave in a certain way because whilst insulting they are also hiding. That's always been the case too.

The trick is, for anyone in the limelight, don't take it seriously.

Completely agree, one poster the other day was even trying to claim he would have driven Betinelli to another club for transfer when we had the best defensive record in all 4 divisions and we had kept the most clean sheets of anyone in the Championship...these posters only seem to come out from under their rocks after a defeat...

Hang on a minute, I am a supporter of boro, I used to have a season ticket and I occassionally watch the odd dodgy stream, I am entitled to my opinion and the useless git can do one, and I am allowed to say that cos you don't know who I am so there!

Oh and yes I would say it to his face in a pub.

Awful keeper, consistently puts in poor performances.

Doesn't deserve personal abuse, and I think anyone who messages a player directly with abuse is a ****, but I see absolutely no issue with people criticising his performances on a Boro forum.

I'm not a fan of mocking nicknames for anyone, so I do dislike the Butternelli comments.

I tried to find the thread about Bettinelli a few months back when it was rumoured that Fulham may call him back for whatever reason, we were going through a good defensive spell back then & he was getting a lot of good compliments, it woukd be interesting & really not surprising, if some of those that posted were wanting him to stay will be the ones shouting the loudest to personnely drive him to a new club, good win peaised, vilified after a bad defeat

It’s a turn of phrase. You need to let go of adi and your distaste for him

we have the 2nd worst shot saved % in the league

Of course everybody is entitled to their opinion, that said, sometimes criticism goes over the top as it would appear in this instance. No need to be nasty about it or show bravado by threatening to “say it to his face”. Sounds like a COB comment

It's the scapegoating I object to. Team concedes a free header in the 8 yard box, a 1 on 1 and a free shot from 8 yards and it's bettinellis fault. Earlier in the season we lose 3 nil and everyone blames Britt. Britt misses an easy chance and ten threads pop up, someone else does and there's nary a comment.
It's simpletons looking for simple reasons and simple solutions.
We do need a new keeper next year though. And a new centre forward.

Its nothing new, do you remember the dogs abuse Phil Whelan got in the pre-internet days, i remember people making donkey noises at the match.

Time to stop being so precious.

You need to read my earlier post, the one you are replying to is satirical.

He didn't threaten anything or anyone, he merely said he would make his comment face to face, rather than "hiding" on a message board. Sometimes you can't win on here.
Looking at which poster is more COB likely, then you Doncaster are the newbie, Laughing has been here in plain sight 100 times over more than you.

Also what's the alternative? It's not like we have a worldie keeper waiting in the wings.

He's the No1 from now until the end of the season. So we may as well back him. Also the current No2 has already had plenty of stick and only played once (everyone going off what Millwall fans said).

So even making a change would see the same pressure on Archer.

It was a joke.............

Really? You'd say that to his face? Why?
