Up to and including 18th January, there have now been 10 consecutive days when more than 1,000 people died (i.e. actual date of death). There was only one such day during the first wave.
Admissions to hospitals are leveling out as are total numbers hospitalised. In this wave the time in hospital seems to be longer than the first wave. Is this the nature of the illness or the benefits of treatments? Hopefully the latter.Good vaccination figures for a few days now Bear and the infection rate falling quickly so some good news there. I never believed the 2nd wave would get this bad though. It is tragic for 1,000's of families.

A pleasant shock. Could there be artificial reasons for such a drop? i.e did snow in the south affect test centres being open? On the surface it looks as though there wasn't a drop in tests yesterday, however. If not, it's great news!As of 9am on 25 January, 3,669,658 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.
