Tesco Coulby. No Broccoli whatsoever

Can’t we all just be grownups and agree, whether you voted for Brexit or not.
The complete country is worse off ?
GDP -5% can you actually believe this?
Massive staffing issues in critical public services: care industry and NHS. (Yes wages stagnating is playing a part but so is no freedom of movement)
This is our elderly loved ones at risk…
Hotels, hospitality industry, fruit farmers. All raising prices partly because they aren’t able to get staff so paying more and passing this through to you and I.
Those who can’t find staff open times are reduced and staff laid off hence the shrinking economy (-5% remember)

An economic kick in our own balls ⚽️ and because why ?
Because Dominic Cummings devised a strategy to get into the heads of the majority in this country; many of whom frequent this board….
Boris, Raab, Patel, gove, etc etc continued the work/lie and here we are….
Higher food prices
Higher everything…..and show me ONE meaningful benefit. ONE ?

No sunlit uplands…just burnt out future’s and blue passports 👌

Immigration has significantly after the UK left the EU. Net UK Immigration was 504,000 for the 12 months up to November 2022. There has been a trend toward non EU immigration, but that was also an ongoing trend before the 2016 Referendum.

Net means the difference between those people coming and those leaving the UK. The UK at present appears to be an attractive destination compared with most other European countries.

A lack of workers overall can't be blamed on on a lack of immigration.

The lack of UK workers appears to be in the main internal factors within the UK, but some of these factors can also be seen in other developed countries such as the USA and Japan.

My gut feeling is

low pay and relatively high taxes on low paid work are factors
Deteriorating health amongst the age group 50-65 (obesity, poor long term diets, declining access to quality free health care inc mental health).
Declining availability of paid care for the over 80s (so those in their 50s/60s are looking after those in their 80s/90s etc)
More young people going to HE
Poor managment and just too much boring/unchallenging work or workplaces where frontline staff face abuse - make a number of jobs increasingly unattractive
Generous pension provision with regards tax encouraging early retirement.
Decline in young people from Russian Federation and Ukraine coming to the UK to work in the agricultural/food sector.

Brexit has been the biggest act of self mutilation ever.
The notion was sold to the nation based on lies.
Those responsible for the lies have not and never will be held accountable.
Those people who cautioned against the act of self mutilation were vilified in a coordinated press campaign insinuating they were unpatriotic ’remoaners’ who were just fear mongering - project fear.
The nation was lied to and the fury should be far more intense than it is.

All correct, but you have to ask yourself why the UK public was allowed (or just allowed itself) to be duped like that? Not saying I have the answer exactly, but that is the real problem surely.

It’s 2023

There’s plenty of studies going back 40 odd years that explain how we got to the referendum in 2016

It was a failing of successive governments Labour included which is too long and boring to explain

Put it this way I would argue the 5 most influential figures why we left are

1) Cameron
2) Johnson
3) Farage
4) Blair
5) Starmer

In that order
Starmer above Ed Miliband who was leader of the opposition?

Because. The people in power wanted to avoid anti tax dodging legislation. They couldn't make it Ankit that, no one would vote for it. So they made it Ankit immigration. They made the EU the enemy it never was. They pushed buttons of bigotry, of a most and irretrievable empire, of a fake notion of sovereignty that didn't exist. That's why a lot of the UK wanted to be duped. The shocking thing is, many people still WANT to be duped for some reason. Despite the lies being exposed

Well but that only begs the question why they "want" to be duped?

Bigotry mainly. Look how hard the government is attacking asylum seekers at the moment.
And again, why are we a nation full of (a large proportion of) bigots then? The rest of the EU aren’t allowing the Far Right to dictate their economies.

People will always speculate about the reasons, but this act of self-sabotage was about something deeper than just people not liking Muslims, or whatever.

Because ‘people’ are/were generally unhappy about the generation of travel the country is heading and Need something or someone to blame for themselves not being generally happy (lack of opportunity, failing industries etc etc)
The far right sun, express, telegraph and mail alongside the government drip feed a message about it all being about immigrants and the limited thinking English unconsciously fall for it and nothing could be further from the truth.
A government holding up decisions on asylum costing us taxpayers millions each day in hotels
The economy is crying out for more workers
This government is the single most extreme right wing government in the history of this country.

Yes, so Brexiteers keep waffling on about this wasn't the reason or that wasn't the reason

And all they have as an answer is some nebulous response about deep rooted this or that and soveriegnty, absolutely nothing at all testable, measurable or quantifiable

Whereas in reality we have a landslide of testable, measurable and quantifiable evidence already to express how utterly dogshit it has been for the entire countries economy

It is mind blowing to me people are still in denial about this, it's quite pathetic actually listening to the justification they still have, it's nothing other than arty farty, incoherent gibberish

True

The tories who were pushing for this and pub bores like Farage created an enemy via the media for people to obsess over and get angry about as an excuse for their own personal failings
The EU enforcing evil EU rules and laws nobody could ever actually name
75% of the agenda was behind fishing which was about 0.1% of the GDP (might as well have argued it was about tractor parts which contributes more to the GDP)
It would stop immigrants coming over on boats (even though the immigrants were coming over from none EU countries)
Pushing the soverignty issue when A.Nobody knew what is was anyway and B. We still had it regadless of EU membership
Brexit money would go to the NHS when in reality due to brexit the GDP is down 5% so the NHS is hundreds of millions now worse off every year
Slogans and catchphrases and adverts on buses, who falls for this nonsense in 2023 apart from 5 years olds?............lets take back control, lets make this great again blah blah

And we have the tories who keep obsessing with immigration , when some of them come from 2nd generation immigrants themsleves, but now they are here they want the island to themsleves

What is the excuse now for the **** state of the country, oh yeah, it's still covid , even though every other EU country had the same, their GDP had recovered, ours is the only ones who hasn't

Next target, the unions, nurses, train drivers etc, just keep creating new enemies every other day as an excuse , the entire right wing media empire has caused so
much damage to the country and continues to do so as long as idiots and bigots keep fuelling their fires by purchasing their rags, the nation should be embarrased, whole
country is a laughing stock

Was it though? Genuine question. Immigration drove a lot of if

The current situation with asylum seekers could just be incompetent, of course. For however right leaning this government is they are the most incompetent bunch in my lifetime.

Only the UK of the G7 countries (Inc Germany, Italy and France) has not reached pre pandemic levels of economic activity. Of all these countries, what is the difference as they have all experienced the Covid and Ukraine factors? Brexit and an incompetent government who are motivated by populist politics to feed the gammons than sensible politics for the good of the UK.

Yes I don’t disagree that immigration drove a lot of it. But is that because we’re a nation who is just more sceptical of immigration than others, island status etc?

It’s one thing to just say “loads of Brexiteers were racist or xenophobic” and it’s not untrue, but my question is “why”?
