Team for Sunderland

I think McGree is one of the most important players in our first XI. I'd have him back in the side as soon as possible.
I'd tend to agree.

If and when fit, McGree makes our first 11, with ease IMO.

I just doubt he's fit enough or he'd have surely been given 10/15 mins on Saturday when we were desperate for a goal.

Carrick isn't going to change formation, so I'd like to see...

---------Dieng

Ayling-RVDB-Clarke-Neto

----Hackney-Morris

Doak---Conway---McGree

-----------Lath

Dropping Conway would be stupidity.
He's been the best player who's played in our front 4 this season and he's the only player in our team to score a goal from open play.

Fair enough if people wanting to fit Lath and Conway in the team but I don't see how we can drop Conway. He's the only forward who looks in form.
It's not stupidity. There's clearly still a lack of cohesion in the side. Conway's scored but we're not getting the best out of Lathe. Do we continue playing Conway at the expense of Lathe's bad form? What about tactically? Do you ignore the tactical ramifications of playing them both together away from home? There's a lot more to consider than just Conway scoring. I like him for the record but it may be that just one of Conway and Lathe can play in this team.

Great post

I've been saying for 2 weeks I'd play Conway at 9 and drop Lath.
I think Conway is a 9 not a 10.
I think Conway will be a better 9 than Lath
I know Conway is in better form than Lath.

Dropping Conway to keep Lath in the team would be stupidity in my opinion.
We either stick with both of them or we play Conway as a 9.

Lath's bad form isn't because Conway is in the team. He wasn't firing when Conway wasn't in the team.

I can appreciate the argument for switching out ELL for Conway but I see Conway as a 10, like Carrick also seems to see him. Or at least as a floating 10 in a more fluid attacking set up as has been the case so far.
However, this Blunderland game is absolutely made for Manu. The frightening pace on the counter will surely be factored in to the deck chairs tactics and if they see him on the bench I think they take a huge sigh of relief.

Manu starts for me with Azaz in the 10. Jones starts ahead of Doak for his experience in a derby game with Doak coming on to terrorise them when they are tiring.

Moriss runs that midfield with Hackney against a strong Sunderland midfield trio.

RVdB would come in if Edmunson wasn't so solid in his debut. Happy to see him keep his place for now - was a solid performance against Preston.

I've got a sneaking suspicion that McGree starts on that left. Carrick has a tendency to put players back in to a starting berth when we as fans don't even know if they are back in training or not. He's good at keeping everyone guessing and I wouldn't be suprised to see that again with McGree. (I know he has stated that Riley is back training in this instance).
I reckon McGree's target has been this game for his return.

This is obvs just subjective opinion and conjecture so don't come after me if I'm way off.

Dieng
Ayling RVDB Clarke Borges
Morris Hackney
Doak Conway Azaz
ELL

RVDB and Morris will probably come back in.

I think Doak starts over Jones - I like Jones, but he's played a lot of minutes if you include internationals, and Doak hasn't signed to sit on the bench every game.

I'd like to see McGree come in - but I don't think he starts Saturday - hopefully we'll see him come on off the bench, and start our next home game.

Pretty sure we all know what team Carrick will pick. Barring injuries, same 11 as vs Preston except Morris back in for Barlaser. I doubt he'll start any players currently returning from injury but I expect RVDB and Howson to come back to the bench in order to watch from a safe distance.

the Mackem game is must win no matter who plays for us. I’m already thinking this could be turning into another bad start to the season all because of our injuries and maybe lack form with our midfield and strikers.

Our bad start isn't down to injuries. We've underperformed. I'd go as far to say we've been ill prepared at times which is incredibly frustrating.

I think we all agree on starting with Morris.

McGree is an interesting one it seems him or Azaz. If McGree is on the bench I think he will be used this time.

Hopefully we will have a few back on the bench - Howson, VDB, Forss

A bit of both for me.

Injuries have certainly affected our defence.

Two sloppy goals cost us 3 points which was not injury related and the attack has been a bit wasteful.
