Tattoos

Never had or fancied , memories are in my head , not on my arms . Each to their own though ............tats on a woman however i find horrible

What looks good at 20 may not at 40-50?
Some of the tats that people will want removed in later life are huge , not two bob to remove?

Tats on a woman doesn't look good.....you are arking upthe wrong tree

My partner is 40_50.....Full sleeve and more doesnt look any less depending on age

Never wanted one when younger but for the last 20 years I've had the nagging thought that I fancy one. Trouble is I really don't have a great sense of the visual, and have never been able to commit to one thing.

Got sleeves and love them. Recently got something added which my wife and I designed and both got which means a lot to us both. My only regret is I don't have room on my arms for others with personal meaning I've designed. Whether I get them somewhere else remains to be seen, haven't decided yet, and I'm late 40's.

Don't really get the increasing popularity of face tattoos, that's a mistake for me but to each their own.

I know this has been done almost to death but surly we must be coming to the end of of its "fashion" .
The 18 year olds must be thinking, " how old fashioned" .
Seen some right sights today, hope some people have the money to remove these stains.
I hope you're not this miserable in real life ossy!

I can understand the negativity in the early days, but the standard of artwork (and yes some Tattooists are that good) is outstanding these days. It's not for nothing that the best around can charge hundreds of pounds for a piece. Done properly and with meaning there's nothing wrong with a tattoo.

The key is finding a great artist, I travel 5 hours up to Scotland to get all mine done

I know a bloke who has spent probably a couple of grand on his stuff. I'd never do that, but the tattoos he has are absolutely brilliant, so I can see why he has them. It was done locally too (place in Eaglescliffe I think).

I am a 50 plus year ex forces and the tattoos I used to see on friends in the forces were like a kids drawing compared to some of the artwork that is being produced by artists today.
unfortunately some people I know are getting tattoos that have no meaning or connection to them ( friend of mines daughter has a Fiat 500 tattoo on her neck - does not own a car and cannot drive) as your tastes change in music, art literature etc, if you have no connection to the tattoo it can become a regret in later life. If the Tattoo means something to you personally I think that makes them more interesting.

Why are you bothered?

If it becomes a regret in life later on you can have it changed or removed, not a big deal.

Don’t think you can call it a fashion trend with how long it’s been around. styles of tattoos have trends, tattoos themselves are here to stay.

my other half is 31 and she has a full sleeve as well. It’s all personal taste. Some like some don’t some simply aren’t bothered either way. They’ve been around for centuries so don’t think they will die out.

it’s just the fashionable type ones that do Chinese stuff in the late 90s tribals in the 2000s etc

Yeah, tattoos are a relatively recent invention and I'm sure it'll die out pretty soon - a passing fad if you will.

Totally unrelated to your expert views on what will and wont be in fashion soon, but an interesting passage from the below article:-

"Tattoos have probably been important to people for over 10,000 years," she notes. The oldest documented tattoos belong to Otzi the Iceman, whose preserved body was discovered in the Alps between Austria and Italy in 1991. He died around 3300 B.C., says Jablonski, but the practice of inserting pigment under the skin's surface originated long before Otzi."

Ful sleeves on a lady can look amazing if artfully done. My other have has a tattoo on her forearm and could get it extended to a full sleeve if she wants. I'm trying to encourage her to get it done!

I've got one.... Absolutely gash😂. A proper 90s 'tribal' black one.

I don't mind folk having them. I do look at some women and think 'why' about sleeves and neck ones. Then again we live in a modern and progressive world so 'why not'
You must get some funny looks with an Absolutely gash tattoo 🤣

Sleeves on women look dreadful, bad enough when they are young but simply ghastly on older bodies. A lot of the artwork is far from original, look at all those who got roses on their back following Cheryl. Worse still are children's names (Cortney,Jordan, Tyler etc) or their DOB whats that all about, in case you forget when you take them to A&E. Faces of your pets is another ridiculous trend. I would argue that no tattoo makes anyone look smarter or more sophisticated quite the opposite.

Thanks for the education but I was already aware of the history or Tattoos , I wasn’t referring to the actual tattoo but the style.
I can remember in my circle of friends in the 70/ 80s only1 had professional tats.
There was only one Tattoo Parlour ( showing my age now, do they still call them that?) in the whole boro area. All fashions wax and wain and it seems to me that it’s highly likely that we’ve reached the peak , as one poster said, by the time your in your 30s a Fiat 500 on your leg might not the best of choices.
Maybe I am a judgmental boring old fart.Or maybe I mix in different circles.
Its the permanence that bothers me ( although With some tats the permanence is the thing, I get that).
I just remember seeing a bloke who was obviously a big guy in his youth, he wandered up to a beach bar in Greece with a Arsenal tat on his floppy man boob, the badge was now about 1 inch wide and 5 inches long, fab.
And anyone who thinks the sleeve will always look good and wond blend into a blue mess is sadly Deluded.

That's a very broad statement. A sleeve tastefully done is quite simply a work of art. Who doesn't want to view works of art
