Talk to me about Hackney

Hackney had a really bad half against Sunderland, that is it.
He is easily our best footballer, it is not even close.
Correct. Critically important that we keep him in January. I think it would take something really exceptional for Gibson to sell if we're in a good position in the league around that time.

I think Hackney would agree himself that he had an indifferent start to the season
I don't think he would because he didn't.

He seems to be getting forward a lot more in the last two games
He's been getting forward all season. The only thing that's changed is he's managed to hit the net in the last 2 games. He was getting forward plenty and getting plenty of shots off.

Look at "Att 3rd" column. This is how many touches he's been getting in the attacking 3rd. He has been consistent all season. the 2 games he has had less touches in the final 3rd, are the two games we were in front for most of the game. I guess he was playing to instruction to not commit so far forward. He had just as many touches in the final 3rd against Sunderland as he did against Stoke. WBA he had an extra 2!

Now look at his shooting. Again, it's been pretty consistent all season. He's been getting plenty of shots off all season. The only difference is he's hit the net in the last 2 games. Most of his shots are from around the edge of the area or further out. He's going to have a low conversion rate. I guess if he's not hitting the net he's shyte thoguh.

He's looking now the player he was in Carricks first season.

Actually he is looking even better than that. Keep it up Hayden. One of our own.

I hadn't previously opened this thread because I knew it would be full of posters spouting rubbish about a good footballer.

After reading it, it looks like one or two prominent posters have been served up a huge slice of humble pie. ;) 🤣🤣🤣

I'm just waiting for those who said 'he let us down' or 'thinks he is much better than he is' or 'not sure what he offers' are going to re-assess their original views.

Been reported that scouts from Villa, Wolves, and Forest were in attendance at the Hawthorns last night. All 3 clubs watching Hackney.

I wouldn’t be surprised if every team in the Premier League has had a good look at him. Even in the £20m+ range there are bargains to be had from the Championship and he’s a current England under 21 international with plenty of experience and a fantastic attitude. They will all have to wait to see if we get promoted first though.

Thanks for these stats which make interesting reading and clearly it just seemed to me he was getting forward more recently, the stats suggest otherwise. On his indifferent start to the season I guess we will have to agree to disagree, I really rate Hackney but I don’t feel he has imposed himself in games early part of season. I don’t think he has been poor, apart from Sunderland when we had an off day as a team, but don’t think he has stood out until last few of games. Just my take and sure plenty will disagree which is fine

I remember when he first came into the team and he had to be taken off on more than one occasion after being booked but continuing to fly into tackles. Now he is actively, and very noticably pulling out of tackles. Playing a midfield 2 is not sustainable when one of them is pulling out of tackles. I’ve said it a long time but he would be far, far better in a midfield 3.

I'm not going to argue he hasn't been inconsistent because he has but his ceiling is so unbelievably high at this level, i'm happy to forgive him a few off days.
