Sunderland Taking Coins Off Away Fans

I think it's crazy how you can't take 1 litre of water through security but you can take 10 100ml bottles and an empty 1 litre bottle. So yes, I think the security checks currently need some rethinking.

And I think football fans need to be treated like humans, not criminals. If they don't want away fans lobbing stuff on home fans maybe move the fans to reduce the risk? I'm not sure why it is acceptable to check EVERY fan who enters a ground for loose change. They could take marbles instead - or are these banned too? Anything can be used as a projectile. If someone wants to get something in to throw they will.
Isn’t it just because it’s easier to screen liquids in smaller containers? Regardless the rules clearly work as air travel is safer than ever

Searching football fans isn’t treating them like criminals, I have been to boxing, f1, music events in the last few years and have been searched every time, it’s not just football getting this treatment. Try to get into any event with more than a few hundred people and you will be searched.

Not sure how easily they could just move fans mid season either, but it’s not hard to see why they are having to enforce this considering they have incidents every few games. Again it’s not a great hardship not to bring cash to a cashless stadium

I don't have a problem not bringing cash - I just don't like the way all these things are going.

Me too, but the world is a very different place than it was 20 years ago and we all need to adapt to changes

Regarding terrorism yes, there is an increased risk to people, but like I said earlier you are 10 times more likely to get run over walking down the road. I think perspective is needed.

But banking small change? I don't agree with that. Police or steward better - don't just impose blanket bans.

Searching people going into football matches is a proportional response. Just like we have loads of proportional responses to pedestrian safety. Speed limits. Traffic calming measures etc.

But that doesn’t just mean don’t take precautions because something else has a higher death rate. That’s like not wearing a seatbelt in a car because you’re more likely to die on the roads riding a bike

It would seem far more sensible to me to identify those responsible and issue them with banning orders. Banning these sorts of people would likely avoid many future problems. Not only that but are decent people being told they can't take coins into a football ground because of the actions of a tiny tiny minority. How many people get involved in these sorts of incidents? 5 or 10 per game? From a crowd of 30k.

You are more likely to die in the car... hence the seat belts. Statistically speaking drivers and passengers should wear helmets but then people wouldn't be able to use their mobile phones...
