Sunderland Taking Coins Off Away Fans

I may be in a minority of one but I am not prepared to be searched going into anywhere.

I am also not prepared to have my money taken from me.

I will not be attending the Stadium of Light therefore. There are similar "rules" going into the away end at Hillsborough and Huddersfield Town. I don't go there either !

At Stoke they even try to do it to their own supporters. I offered to turn out of my pockets and open my handbag but they can keep their hands off me. They allowed me entry.

These days it will not be the disaster it might have been years ago. If I cannot go to football matches, I cannot go to football matches - makes life simpler
Personally I think the searches at football grounds aren't anywhere near enough. Or at gigs. Sadly we live in a world where terrorism is a threat.

Do you refuse to use flights?

Football match searches tend to be on the light side. Only really thorough one I can remember was at arsenal.
Little wonder so many flares get in.

Are you equally as horrified when walking to a gig or a football game? You are 10 times more likely to get killed by a car than you are to be killed by terrorism as a pedestrian.

Maybe where a helmet next time you go out for a stroll...

Yes I think cars are appalling. They destroy the planet and cause death and carnage. I think city centres should be pedestrianised. I don't think wearing a helmet would help very much. Besides which it's a massive inconvenience rather than a very small one.

Not taking sensible precautions when terrorism is such a real threat would be just mindless. Thousands of people in an enclosed space is about as high risk as it gets. It’s hardly over the top to suggest searching people in such scenarios

Would you get on a flight if they just didn’t bother with security?

Is this there way of getting away fans to subsidise all the freebie tickets they give out to make the ground look full, so they can tell everyone how 'Massive' they are.🤷‍♂️

Walking into a football ground cubical because you need a sh't and being frowed upon as they are needed for 'other uses' is a bigger issue.

Yet taking in coins is more of a story 😂

I assume from not allowing coins into the SOL the concourses will only accept payment by cards? This wants highlighting when Boro fans go to purchase tickets for this fixture

It is a private ground so as long as they tell you the rules beforehand they can ban what they want. But we need to watch out for this before we visit and make sure everyone knows about it.
One solution should be moving the away fans from the top tier.
And watch out for incoming coins which the home fans are allowed to keep hold of .

No seriously we must fight tooth and nail to keep our cash, if it goes then it will give governments even more power to control what we spend things on, or even deny you the right to spend your own money. Think of all the things that involve the exchange of cash, and there are many, it would destroy so many things we take for granted now.
Money laundering, the drug trade, muggings!

Mate do yourself a favour and never visit Sweden

I think security is too strict at airports as it is. But, as you know, the point I was making is football doesn't need MORE searches.

Car occupants suffer more head injuries than cyclists in a typical year. People moan about cyclists not wearing helmets but would never expect to in a car despite the data showing they would be more use in a car.

Funny old world - we all view risk differently don't we? Most of our views are driven by the media it I would guess. If you hear more about something (terrorism) you are more afraid. We all worry about terrorism but don't worry when walking for a coffee at lunchtime.

In this age of terrorism do you really think that’s safe? An enclosed space packed with thousands of people will always make it a target. Look at the terror attacks in France a few years ago, the security in place stopped a bomber entering the ground which would have killed hundreds of people.
Football seems to be the only large scale event you can enter without being properly searched.

Even in the context of this thread, the reason Sunderland are increasing security is because numerous fans have been injured by the away fans throwing things. Football clearly needs more security not less. 5 minutes longer to get into the ground isn’t exactly an inconvenience either

I think it's crazy how you can't take 1 litre of water through security but you can take 10 100ml bottles and an empty 1 litre bottle. So yes, I think the security checks currently need some rethinking.

And I think football fans need to be treated like humans, not criminals. If they don't want away fans lobbing stuff on home fans maybe move the fans to reduce the risk? I'm not sure why it is acceptable to check EVERY fan who enters a ground for loose change. They could take marbles instead - or are these banned too? Anything can be used as a projectile. If someone wants to get something in to throw they will.
