Cameron started the rot with his ridiculous decision to call a referendum on EU membership.
May had a chance to slap down the ERG and their like but made the mistake of trying to appease them and compromise. That was never going to work, they're ideological lunatics.
Then Boris came, kicked out the more sensible "moderate" MPs and now the party has too many of them to govern effectively.
Talk about labour being split, but the Tories are essentially 2 parties now. One being UKIP by stealth and the other made up of centrists, but the more unprincipled ones who'll happily compromise any values they might have in exchange for power.
As much as I despaired at anyone voting Tory last time (thought it was blindingly obvious the type of creature Johnson was) I don't think many voted for this.
