Still booing the taking the knee

Two threads on this in two weeks and still no closer to solving the mystery of why people are booing it (other than racism, being anti anti racist or just plain ignorance).

Yet those defending the booing insist it's nothing to do with racism 🤔

Strange.

I don't like the national anthem. It nonsensically glorifies the biggest scrounger in the country, whose family protected and continue to protect a sex offender and it's a boring dirge of a tune anyway. And it's played all the time at sporting events. When will it end. Enough is enough.

And guess what. I still don't boo it. But if I did I'd be able to articulate why. Funny that.

I'd like to bet the people who are booing are the ones who haven't a fkn clue why they are doing it, couldn't even spell racism, but just makes them look tough to their tough mates....
just a sad bunch of pathetic individuals

There's a natural tendency to push back against the establishment, it's something that even most lazy and least educated can easily do and think they're being edgy or sophisticated.
I think it's that. They feel the establishment is telling them that change is needed and pushing back gives them some warped kudos.
It's wrong and out of date. They need to feel that this places them behind the curve and out of touch.

Perhaps supporters club could organise something. A sign or statement to supporting players who take the knee. This occurrence is getting stronger it seems and it needs to be tackled as its a small but annoying blight on our supporters
I know there have been vague announcements asking to respect it but it does need something a bit stronger and more direct. A joint statement from the fans and the club read out just before kick off and shared directly via email and social media would be great. Something along the lines of this.

“We the players, staff and supporters of Middlesbrough football club would like to ask all in the stadium to please respect any player who chooses to take the knee before kick off. We do not boo the national anthem or any other pre match activity. The taking of the knee is an anti racism statement from the players and has no political affiliation. We ask that you show the same respect you expect for any other message of equality.”

There is an elephant in the room

Reverse our original decision and get our players to take the knee - over time the booing will go. It has everywhere else.

I heard it loud and clear today. You can call me woke or a snowflake or whatever...but it has to stop. For me it's more important than our league position
Silliest comment so far-being so upset by a little booing that you don’t want us promoted
Especiallly with you being a racist!-why WHITE adder?

Go to the American Football at Wembley every year. Before the game, you get the "please stand for the national anthems". I remain seated - I'm not American and I'm an atheist republican who thinks the national anthem is bollox.

But I don't boo, and I respect people's right to stand and feel all fuzzy and patriotic. 5 mins of my life, I can cope with non participation.

Ignorance, racism, morons..... probably a mix of all three which isn't a good look and reflects badly on the club......although we are not unique in this respect.

How many of the players who originally made the decision are still here? Probably been a decent turnover since then and the decision was led by Britt who is long gone (and never struck me as a deep thinker anyway).

I suspect we continue not doing it out of habit now rather than because the players feel strongly one way or another.

I get that most of them probably just want to concentrate on their footy, but it would be good for someone in the squad to show a bit of leadership on the issue. You'd think Steffen might have strong feelings about it for starters.

Even if they want to continue not to do it, another statement explaining their stance and supporting the gesture from other clubs wouldn't hurt.

It'll be the same sort of people who were desperate for brexit but when asked why couldn't explain why it was so important to them other than regurgitating soundbites like "take back control".

Very easily manipulated. But secure in the knowledge that their opinion "counts as much as anyone else's".

Which is another clever lie the right wing media have managed to get into people's heads. That everyone's opinion is of equal merit.
