I agree mate.I don’t think it’s a simple as that, so many different facets to what is going on here.
Does booing taking the knee make you racist?
Why do people boo the gesture?
Do people have a right to boo taking the knee?
What effect does the booing have?
Why did we stop?
What did we do instead?
What are we going to do to address the issues?
Personally I do think people have the right to boo taking the knee, its unpleasant and makes us look like a bunch of racist morons but the gesture has now come to represent a lot of things for some people that were not necessarily for what it was intended.
There is an element of ‘them’ and ‘us’ that goes hand in hand with football tribalism, rivalries etc.. those who kneel and those who don’t taking away the sentiment behind the gesture there is a part of that involved.
Maybe a fan survey would be a good idea? An introduction to the gesture, where it came from and what it means.. Colin Kaepernick, why he did it and the effect that had on his career and why so many athletes and sports stars want to show solidarity with him.
Should we bring the gesture back? What does it mean to you? Is it too political? Has it lost it’s meaning?
Been busy today and not fully engaged with the debate. Will give it a little time later.
