Steve Gibson

Both Sunderland and newcastle had new owners in the last two years, the location argument is rubbish

We are just over two hours from London, some fans would have you think we are in the north highlands

Yes, let's use Sunderland and Newcastle as beacon of success in switching owners. Ffs.

Both of which are, from a non Middlesbrough resident sense, far more attractive places to invest in than Middlesbrough.

What a ridiculous argument, yes let's have our players commuting from London/Madrid/Rome. Why not?

Gibson has made huge mistakes, he made some rubbish appointments and will probably go on making mistakes, but there is no alternative offered by anyone in this thread that's realistic.

Yes I accept, I would love some benevolent billionaire to take us over tomorrow and probably, so would Gibson.

This belief is the fundamental problem.
He uses his Group's Balance Sheet to cover the perennial losses his running of the club results in.
He is not investing in the club, he is increasing and offsetting the debt.
The club owes the Group at least £120m. If they didn't, then they would have no debt, they would be a legitimate going concern. There would be high probability another investor/owner could be attracted to take the debt free club on.
This would mean that Gibson would have to write off the debt, convert it to equity. He would then have actually put the money in people think he has.
Frankly the only thing I would be concerned about with all that happening is if it seriously impacted Gibson O'Neill Group and impacted on its employees.
How Gibson has financed Boro is not unique, but it is a sick model which guarantees the club can only ever realistically be owned by him.

I perfectly understand how our finances work, but I'll ask you the same question as others. What/where is the alternative now?

The players not giving a **** clearly isn’t our problem and the reason we are in this position.

Did you watch the game? I would guess they put the same effort in as Millwall based on running stats if that info is available?

Think we lost the game because we were set up by someone nowhere near qualified enough to do the job, not because the players couldn’t be bothered
I did watch it and what I saw was no heart and no desire. None whatsoever. Players not challenging each other over mistakes. No leadership from the senior pro's. Impossible to see who the captain was in that team. They all just went through the motions. Tell me which other club has the chairman interfering to sort that out. He took a punt on CW who most people thought was a great appointment. But no-one seems to be in disagreement with the sacking. Gibson has been let down like the rest of us. Maybe more so.

Which player specifically? Far too easy to say everyone was lazy which is why we lost, this isn’t the case. The players put plenty of effort in, chased things etc. they were set up by someone who isn’t a manager because we have sacked yet another one and are in a squad full of players who just aren’t good enough because of failures by recruitment. That’s why we lost, not because the players couldn’t be arsed. They are professional athletes

Did you watch the second half? There was no effort at all.

Gibson hasn’t been let down at all, he let CW down. He showed last season he might be able to do something with this squad. His reward was to loose his best player in the summer, miss out on all the key positions we clearly needed and fill the squad full of loans or development players the manager clearly didn’t want.

The owner is ultimately responsible for sorting these issues with recruitment and he hasn’t, if anything it’s just getting worse year on year

The club has been getting slowly worse year on year for a while now, when will the time come that some fans stop blaming the players/manager and realise the problems are far deeper?

It's an analogy of what can happen if you get your wish.

If you think that's a wind up then you need a history lesson in foo

We can only talk for Gibson he's running this mess.Mel was someone elses problem .You can't compare both made a mess of things.

Newcastle yes but Sunderland? They were in a division lower than us with huge problems when their takeover happened. You make it sound like we are the only part of the country that can’t attract any outside investment. That isn’t the reason.

Why not have our players commute? That’s my point we aren’t in an area miles away from anything, a player could realistically live in London/Manchester/Birmingham and travel for training/games. The location argument is no excuse.

Yes the reason we have no alternative is because of Gibson and the way he runs the club, that’s kind of the point here

He's simply not investing as much as he once did we've turned into a selling club selling Tavernier on the eve of the season beginning has destroyed any hopes we have had for this season in my book
Have you heard of FFP?

the players attitude today was a disgrace !

We won’t attract any new ownership because of the state of the clubs finances and the debt which is just covered every season by Gibson. When he decides enough is enough the club is most likely ****ed

Relying on an owner throwing money to keep a club afloat isn’t sustainable

Sunderland aren’t a more attractive club. The area isn’t great and despite having bigger attendances than us in the premier league only produced 200k more in ticket sales than us . Tell you something ? Aside from the early 1900s they’ve been a historic yo yo club like us

Seriously , it’s like some believe we’re F***ing North Korea in terms of economy and no one would want to invest in us . Smaller clubs than us have had takeovers . There is also an argument that if we had a more successful history the potential of having a bigger fan base could have been there. There are decent sections of south Durham and north Yorkshire that could be tapped into , that and Teesside . Sunderland will always have to compete in newcastles shadow

Gizasm nails it. Too many people finger pointing and flapping about things they know nothing about. . Gibson is culpable for appointments. He picks up the bill for his " mistakes " that does not forgive the players on the pitch and the decisions that they make. Virtually the same team/ squad that beat Man Utd , Tottenham etc etc. They are the ones who need to step up. Bottle jobs

I didn’t see it, I saw 11 players clearly lacking in quality not having a clue how they were set up with no real leadership. One thing I couldn’t criticise was effort
You saw effort? Like effort as in players willing to run through brick walls for the travelling fans? They were going through the motions, wondering about what club they might go to next or what car to buy next. Heads were elsewhere, it was blatant to see.
