Spurs open talks on Spence

They now have champions league money.... Get them spending.

I just read on twitter that Forest are preparing to lose two big stars in Spence and Johnson. Top quality reporting 😂

I'm glad many Boro fans jumped on it saying 'Boro's Djed Spence'.

I’ve posted a few times on Twitter reminding them of this.

As they do talk about him as though he’s THEIR player. One forest fan was on the Liverpool thread saying that their player jed spence was better than TAA after Cafu said TAA was the best he’d seen today.

“Cafu also said he’s no Jed Spence #nffc”

£10 million is nothing for a PL team to pay nowadays. Spence will go for between £15 & £20 million. I struggle to understand why people think he’ll go for less.

As for never signing somebody on hype, if this was true there wouldn’t be a transfer market.

True. I read the other day that Forest fans think he's better than Matty Cash. He went for 15mil and add ons.

I'm guessing that's around what you should pay. The thing is that it's the clubs being linked Spurs / Arsenal and even German clubs. They all have money. Its not like its Bournemouth and Brentford.

Think the Forest fans would go ballistic if they went up and didn't sign him, so from a business point of view probably better for us if they do go up, spend a big chuck of their PL riches on him.
Interesting.
I don't think they would, not if they spent that 15m on one or two proven premiership players. I supppose Spence could be more of a project, for one of the better sides, that will get more of the ball than Forest will.

They're going to be struggling, big time, if they do go up, and from what I remember Spence wasn't much of a "fighter". If his head starts to drop, then that £15 will look expensive.

I don't think he's anywhere near proven yet mind, certainly not to sustain prem level, and I watched their big games objectively, rather than watched from behind the rose tinted hype coming from the commentators.

If we get £15m for Spence, then someone (other than us) is likely getting stung, and I can't remember the last time we did that to anyone, usually teams get a bargain from us as it's under different circumstances. I could be wrong about Spence mind, and it may just have been that we were using him poorly, which wouldn't have been the first time, but we did see a lot of him and nobody was bothered when he went out on loan. He's going to have any side play to his strengths (not even Forest, if they go up, as they won't have the ball), he'll have to fit into how anyone wants to play (big sides) or has to play (bad sides), and get on with it. I'm not sure if he's a player you can rely on, when the chips are down.

Wan Bissaka £50m.

Ollie Burke went to Leipzig for £14m in 2016.
Bellingham went to Dortmund for £22.5m and had literally just turned 17.
Ryan Sessegnon £24m at 19.
Ben Godfrey went to Everton for £25m at 22.
Maddison went to Leicester for £22m at 21
Webster went from Bristol City to Brighton for £20m.
Watkins went from Brentford to Villa for £31m.

I'm not saying Spence is better or worse, but they are just examples of people gambling on potential.
If multiple clubs are keen on Spence and with the hype he has had and Forest's meteoric rise then we should get £20m for him.

Also there is no way Gibson would prefer £10m up front versus a lot more on a staged basis. He books the whole agreed fee as profit in year 1 anyway on Spence, Fry, Tav, McNair, Jones or whoever is sold without a current book value.
I have a nagging worry that there may already be a fee agreed with Forest, but that would have been a dumb thing to do. I think those days are gone.
I'd say Spence is well behind all of those now, and well behind where they where, when sold, and he's also a wing back, obviously midfielders/ attacking mids and strikers go for way more. There's an absolute abundance of Right backs/ wing backs, especially English ones, which won't help his price. Most teams realise we don't need him too, again this won't help.

The only two wing backs, or near that on that list are Wan Bissaka, who looked great for Palace with two years in the prem, and has been good enough for 90 games at man u, most of those when they finished 2nd and 3rd. Sessegnon is the other, who scored 15 goals in the season before he was sold and there was much more hype, rightfully, he's only a year older and now found his feet in the team who finished 4th.

I don't think so. They go out and watch them perform before making a decision. The signings don't always settle, as all clubs know but they're watched and assessed before being signed.
They go out and watch them perform? They never do do they? Well that's a relief because as far as I can tell they'll have been watching a player many pundits and Forest fans think is the best wing back in the league (and who made team of the season).

I'm assuming those fans and pundits will have come to that conclusion from erm watching him perform. Although I suppose it's possible they just like his hair and the way he pulls his socks up over his knees.

Some top negotiators on here. “Would you accept 20 mill Gibbo?” “I’ll take 10 mill and not a penny more!”

£10 Million who's doing the dealing on behalf of Tottenham ? Micky Flanagan
Unfortunately it's worse... Daniel Levy. The tightest man in football😂

He will probably offer 2mil up front and the rest in instalments. He's renound for being a nightmare to negotiate with.

The only two wing backs, or near that on that list are Wan Bissaka, who looked great for Palace with two years in the prem,
Wan Bissaka played 46 times in total for Palace, virtually all in one season.
He was exactly the same age as Spence, when he signed for Man U and had played half as many matches as Spence.
He went for £50m.
He is hardly outstanding.

I'm glad you're not setting our selling prices Andy.

I can’t see Forest being able to compete with Spurs if they want Spence.

We need another top premier club to cause a bidding war if we want £15m plus, he is nowhere near the finished article and his form has dipped a little over the last few weeks, the commentators have stopped raving about him.

The Premiership has a rich history of clubs spaffing money on players who are "guaranteed" to be the next best thing. I really, really hope we pull someone's pants down and we are the club saying "....f*cking hell, how much!!!!!!".
£20m would be unreal, imagine Wilder could get 3-4 mis-firing strikers for that.......😉

Based on other transfers I think that we should get around £25m. I hope that I am wrong , but if Spurs offer Spence big wages, and a transfer fee around what they offered in January, what can we do if Spence refuses to talk to other clubs?
Transfers involve three parties, not just two.

Anything less than £15,000,000 + sell on clauses is a pzz take.
Perhaps they think Boro are such a cash starved second tier club we will graciously hold our hand out and accept the big boy`s spare change?
Get lost.

Sessegnon, would be a great swap, or a season long loan as a deal sweetener
I don't get this logic, or at least not as a swap.

If we do get good money for Spence, would we want to splash all of it on a LWB? Because that's basically what a swap looks like.

Fully on board for a loan, but that seems even less likely.

Ideally , they need to make that fee as big as possible . I can see it essentially being a big part of wilders spending for next season.

As said before , it’s in our interest for forest to go up . Competition drives prices up . Spurs will be willing to pay more if they know forest are in the hunt too

But people have to remember that a newly promoted club most likely will struggle paying 15 million + for a player . It would be a massive gamble. So don’t really know if forest could match any fee with spurs
