So if then 21st is delayed .....

Seems pretty clear that restrictions will not be lifted on the 21st now.

I can live with that but I just hope we don’t end up going backwards again with further restrictions.

The new variant is spiking and things will not open up till it is coming right down again, then we can perhaps expect another spike around autumn time…..

Then we may get into booster vaccines and targets for uptake of these linked to suggested opening up dates.

It becomes difficult to see any sort of quick exit from a level of restrictions and control measures.

Maybe I’m just feeling particularly negative about it this am but I think we are going to be seriously impacted by Covid for quite some time longer.

I really fear for the impact on the economy, people’s livelihoods and wellbeing.

Been planning our lasses surprise birthday for the 3rd July, looks like it may go West. Lots of her old friends she has not seen for years are/were coming and it's getting close to decision day.

I’m sorry to hear that.

On a slightly similar note, I have friends who have a much delayed wake planned. This delay in the easing of the restrictions will scupper their plans (and break their hearts 🙁)

Yet the G7 crew and the elite continue to openly mock you all with a long weekend party in Cornwall.
Don’t get too hung up on that, I am sure the negative testing protocols will have been followed, you couldn’t have all the world leaders going out of action.

Vaccines don't protect us from incompetent government decisions.
You do realise that they have the Indian variant in India right ?

Now I wonder what they did to have such a precipitous decline after their wave hit them ? Oh yes, that's right, masks, social distancing and vaccines, silly me.

Mrs WG and I are supposedly heading to Budapest in August for our 10th wedding anniversary, then going to Greece for a week with the kids later that month.

Can't see either of those happening.

I am confused by the comments on this thread on one hand we criticised the government being too slow to go into lockdown. We then came out of lockdown too quickly and suffered the consequences in the autumn/winter.
We are now unlocking slowly one step at a time, and now at the final hurdle when we are seeing a fantastic vaccination program, but also an increase in a mutation affecting the young and unvaccinated. We are complaining that the final unlock may be delayed.

Lets do whatever it takes to stop this virus affecting us again.

Also I've just been verbally abused in the street whilst walking to work for not moving to the side off of the pavement so this gadgy could maintain social distancing. 😵‍💫

"Yes mate I'll jump onto a main road for you"
"**** off" 🤣

Why is it people like this who moan at others ate not the ones to jump out the way. Why do they expect everybody else to move?

"an increase in a mutation affecting the young and unvaccinated" ... that's not what the stats say

You're evidencing the monumentally stupid government decision to ignore that graph a month ago, we wouldn't need to have this debate if Boris Johnson and his ministers acted and placed India on the red list when they should have.

With the rapid rise in cases, one more month with restrictions at current levels is worth it to save lives and give more vaccine data on cases versus hospitalisation versus deaths.

But again, we would not be in this position but for incompetent government decisions.

If we, and given we live on a little island it is a big if, have a period of sustained dry weather then a few more weeks to ramp up vaccinations and get a handle on infections and the resultant effect on hospitalisation might not be as devastating as some are making out.
We do need to come out of this and it'll be harder to justify restrictions if vaccination numbers increase, but it is silly to think that we won't be affected by the status in the rest of the world for a good while yet.
Plenty of anti-lockdown proponents were telling us how New Zealand would suffer once they had to open up so we are now in the same boat as we've seen by allowing travel from India for too long and then importing a variant that has taken hold. We will get back to normal, but it's going to take common sense from everyone including government being decisive and putting public health first over political and monetary gain. We could well be effed if we are relying on this shambles though.

What are the backbencher motivations for their objections, economy, civil liberties, surely they are also guided by the science??
Science is just a word to most of them. They don't understand it. They don't want to understand it. We have a prime minister whose degree is in Classics for goodness' sake. Classics. He can just about remember 'wash your hands' and that's it. I hate to say it, but Thatcher would have made a far, far better job of this.

The current restrictions are not too onerous. Be honest, you can go to the pub, eat in a restaurant, have friends round for a meal even go to a sporting event. I would love to be going to a music festival right now in this weather but it can't be.

At some point more people have got blame the incompetence of Johnson. If he had stopped the flights from India when he stopped the flights from Pakistan and Bangladesh it would have delayed the onset of the "Delta Variant" by at least 4 weeks. Studies have estimated that 94% of the infections of this variant have come through contacts with travellers from India. 4 weeks would have got a huge number of additional people vaccinated and probably would have negated the need for any delay.

Don't wail about the restrictions, rage against the incompetence that will make this necessary.

Yeah, I think Iv mentioned it before but that's the problem I face. I have a holiday booked at the end of the year to a green list country. Said country won't have us though. To be fair they aren't taking anyone but yeah countries will look at our disease and think "no thanks"
Yesterday you post that I have psychological problems, yet you book a holiday overseas while this virus is still ping ponging around the world.

I think I posted that you were a stalker. Just to clarify. Which, lets face it, going directly for a personal attack here hasn't helped your cause.

I had exactly the same back in January when out jogging. Self righteous posh bunt shouted “two meters” at me. Yeh mate I’ll get run over for you. Wouldn’t mind but i overtook him and his stupid missus on the inside of the road and kept a respectable distance.

Really Wanted to stop and rip into the guy to tell him I was only jogging to get over depression caused by isolation and the pandemic but since the silly **** couldn’t see further than his own nose what was the point??
