So if then 21st is delayed .....

I read the other day of a 600% increase somewhere when a town went from 2 to 12, but that bit was buried further down the article.
Indeed. How often do we hear journalists (and others) joking about being 'not very good at maths'? And then they go ahead writing about it, putting things in percentage terms when it's not appropriate. And, in that instance, also getting the answer wrong (it's a 500% increase, not 600%).

Another mathematical corker in the Newcastle Chronicle today. Ashington has a "whopping 850%" increase, they say.

They have 18 infections.

The restrictions which are really biting are the lack of GP appointments, dental services moving at the pace of a geological age and waiting lists for operations snaking ever longer.

These must be affecting so many people, but we get a warped perception of Covid from press reports. I read the other day of a 600% increase somewhere when a town went from 2 to 12, but that bit was buried further down the article.

It's the same with the stats for over 60s: the percentages look bad, but the actual numbers are a small fraction of previous rates.

The NHS weigh up tough decisions every day with when to withdraw treatment and which medicines are cost effective for possible care plans. This virus is just going to have to join those other conditions and illnesses.
I haven't been able to get my kids in to see the dentist since March last year. We've had to spend extra to send them privately next week.

Robert Peston: So we’re delaying by four weeks aren’t we?

Prime minister: Well we’re setting out the position on Monday but what I can certainly tell you is that to deliver an irreversible roadmap you’ve got to be cautious, we’re still looking at the data, we’re seeing unquestionably not just cases but also hospitalisations going up - there’ll be arguments about the extent to which they’re going up, extent to which feeding into fatalities. But in order to deliver an irreversible roadmap gotta be cautious.

--------------

Why will thee be arguments over extent of hospitalisation and fatalities. These are hard numbers, but of course vermin like Johnson will argue black is white to stay in power.

'gotta'? Speak English you corrupt, lying, racist, populist, authoritarian clown.

Like most things, Boris Johnson doesn’t understand the meaning of irreversible or has the humility to admit he made a mistake.

You do realise that they have the Indian variant in India right ?

Now I wonder what they did to have such a precipitous decline after their wave hit them ? Oh yes, that's right, masks, social distancing and vaccines, silly me.
I already answered this in the other thread. They locked down. That's what a lockdown curve looks like it. Go and look at them. They rocket up, then they drop right off. Look here's the UK one.

Are you getting confused with the numbers for deaths or are you just willfully trying to mislead people into some crank notion?

W T F is math
Both math and maths are short for the word mathematics. The word math can refer to either the discipline or subject of mathematics. It can also refer to mathematical procedures. In a sentence like She enjoys studying math and science, the word math refers to the subject or discipline of mathematics.

Mrs WG and I are supposedly heading to Budapest in August for our 10th wedding anniversary, then going to Greece for a week with the kids later that month.

Can't see either of those happening.
Oh I wouldn’t give up hope yet - you might be lucky - Greece you would think will come onto the green list by then!

In America, not here. Maths is the abbreviation here.

As @FatCat said you might be OK for Greece. It’s likely to want tourists in and could end up on the green list by then, hard to tell. Not so sure about Hungary: the positive points being the way this government acts it’s likely to favour its fellow lawless autocrats and give Orbán a tourism boost regardless if it’s effects on our safety.

the other thing is vaccine programs: they are using the Sputnik vaccine which I believe is the most effective of all the current vaccines

Can't be having those foreigners over here with their funny language. This is an English country for English people.
This is the United Kingdom made up of four nations, one of which has both English and Welsh as national languages. The Welsh word for mathematics is mathemateg.
