The Magpie trophy, it's a special trophy given out to teams that no longer win things but the fans think they shouldSo. What does 'bigness' get you exactly?

It's why words matter. If they had said 6 most successful clubs in each division, then there would be no debate. Using the term biggest, infers more than just most historically successfulThe thing people are taking issue with is the use of the word "Biggest", which is an arbitrary term without a clear definition.
There is no way Preston are bigger better more illustrious or whatever you want to call it than us.
Non
So under your criteria Preston are a bigger club than Brighton, Crystal palace and West HamIt's not a strange list.
It's a very simple and accurate list with a clear criteria.
The thing people are taking issue with is the use of the word "Biggest", which is an arbitrary term without a clear definition.
If we were to use all time average attendances, we are 2nd biggest in the Championship.
If we were to use an all time top flight points total, we're the 5th biggest in the Championship and there are 3 teams in League One that are bigger than us.
But both of those data points are also relying on "ancient history" to keep us afloat on those tallies.
We've spent 61 seasons in the top flight, 46 of them were before I was born, so clearly they don't count by the logic used by some on here.
Only 4 teams currently in the Championship have won a trophy since I was born.
Nottingham Forest haven't achieved a single thing since I was born in 1992, I doubt any person would argue that Swansea are a bigger club because they've won something whilst I was alive, they're not, but that's largely because the middle aged and older posters on here won't see something that happened 42 years ago as ancient history, despite it being just as irrelevant to today's standings.
I'm sure many will be the same posters that will rightly argue that football started before the Premier League.
History is history, recent or not.
Totally agree with that, Boro fans like to make out that we're a much smaller club than we are. There's absolutely no comparison to be made in terms of Boro vs Preston and Huddersfield. We're a far bigger club through every metric aside from trawling way back through the history books.I'd say comfortably, they've spent as much time in the bottom two leagues in the last 40 years as not. We've spent 2 seasons ever.
We've got bigger crowds comfortably, had bigger signings, more internationals, bigger name managers, won a trophy in living memory, had multiple cup finals and semi finals, a european final. In the modern era we are much 'bigger' than both. Even in this last crappy decade, I would still say we are bigger than them, and that's taking us at our low, and them at a high point.
Our fans do like to play us down. Have a bit of pride lads.
Not you Red, whoever decided those "Biggest 6" did no more than say "Who'd been in the Prem most recently?" and tacked Forest on, hence laziness.Pardon me?

There'd still be a debate because according to that list Spur's charity shield wins count the same as Villa's league titles and European Cup win. It's why words matter. There's absolutely no doubt Villa have a more successful history than Spurs.
Well the vague concept of "bigness" does actually help you attract players and managers.So. What does 'bigness' get you exactly?
Btw my issue isn’t with some no mark list I could care less it’s when other boro fans play us down that annoys me as yes we’re not Barcelona but we’re not Barnsley either.
