Silvera

You said only engel has had a decent run of games, right?

Dieng, O'Brien, Greenwood RVDB. They have perfoemed well when asked, wouldn't you agree?
I was talking about those criticised, Engel, Rogers and Silvera came in for it. The others haven't been overly criticised.

I have no gripe with the recruitment side by the way, they've brought in decent players and will bring in unsuitable players, every club does the same. Scott and his scouts have done a good job over the last two years.

This thread was kicked off in praise of Silvera. Yes he scored a decent goal, that's all. Rogers has still to prove he's a decent acquisition. Engel is well on the way to showing he's worth a first team spot.

I don't agree with this Jedi. I believe that Carrick, Engel aside, wanted to persevere with Rogers Lath and Silvera but they were getting pelters both from fans in the ground and on social media. I think fans forced his hand, not results.

The reason I believe this is based on Carricks post match comments when we were loosing. At no point did he seem concerned. Fans forced his hand to protect developing players. Pretty shameful in my opinion.
Not a chance fans picked the side. He saw his errors, changed the side and fortunes changed. He's not going to throw his players under a bus in press conferences, that's for lesser managers.

Indeed.

So I am one of the 3 or 4 posters borolad is pointing at?
Incredible that borolad would accuse anybody of thinking they have a superior knowledge of anything. Self appointed Judge and jury admin supremo.
Viv even thanked me for a post explaining my rationale in my early season criticism.
Quicksilvera and Ayton Mews know what to do - just put me on ignore if I irritate you so much. Same goes for anyone else.
Muttley and I have a hate hate relationship. Again there is supreme irony in Muttley accusing anybody else of arrogance and talking others down.

Some facts about what I have actually posted.
1. I disagreed and still do with the mass signings of bargain basement players focusing on quantity rather than quality.
2. I would have preferred we sign more higher quality loan players to get us out of this league. Greenwood and O'Brien are a cut above, as were Archer and Ramsey.
3. I said I thought Carrick had been let down with the quality of signing and that our squad had gone backwards.
4. I questioned why Scott had been appointed given his record and relative lack of experience to become Head of Football. I also questioned his permanent signing record.
5. I have consistently supported Michael Carrick and claimed he needed better support and we would lose a diamond if he was stupidly let go.
6. I didn't mourn the loss of Steffen and was happy with the recruitment of Dieng who has proved even better than I thought he'd be and much better than Steffen.
7. When Rogers got pelters in his first match I posted that it was obvious he had class and was just being played out of position due to not signing a striker. I still think he is the best of the new permanent signings.
8. When Greenwood got pelters I also posted he had obvious ability and would come good. I was very happy with the signing of O'Brien - a proven top end Championship midfielder.

The ONLY player I have actually had a go at is Silvera- and despite last night's important and well taken goal - I still think he is poor. That is my opinion.
I'm still not clear why we needed to sign 3 keepers and 3 left backs (inc Coulson) and 4 new players who effectively compete for the forward left position. Yet took such a low key gamble on signing just one CF.
Gilbert has been the invisible man.

I have consistently praised the lads who were often getting the fiercest stick early on, namely Crooks, Jones, Fry, McNair, Howson, even Hackney who was amazingly getting stick earlier in the season.
Throughout this fantastic run of improved form and results I have immediately showered praise where it has been due e.g. McGree's reintroduction and subsequent few performances.I have also heavily praised Barlaser for his vastly improved contribition and said he was unlucky to be dropped yesterday.
I gave Engel big praise for his second half performance that kicked his recent run from.
Van Den Berg has shown great character and stepped up well sometimes well out of position, though he is not better than we had IMHO.

Only 4 lads started the match last night that have been signed in the last year (Dieng, VdB, Engel and Greenwood (a loanee). We've signed 13
Only 5 such have started I think in any of the league winning run we have had.
The players at the core of our recent run are Dieng, Fry, McNair, Hackney, Crooks, Jones, Coburn.
The permanent signings have been bit part players (bar Dieng)
I would have liked more quality to bolster what we already had. Gibson could have enabled this, but chose not to.

Carrick has done again what he did last season and improved players' performances individually and collectively and created a real team bond. He is a special manager and we are lucky to have him.

So no, I am still not doing cartwheels as a result of our permanent signings of the last year or more, but I do wish them all well, want them all to come good and say so when they actually do.

What continually frustrates me on here is that anybody who criticises something/anything on here is dubbed as being critical of everything by a certain section of people who seem not willing to criticise anything.
Quicksilvera is the one who most recently springs to mind. I see he is now demanding an apology from Coluka, a poster who also has the audacity to express an opinion on a message board.

I don’t think we did to be fair I think we focussed on attributes more than values types of players that fit a profile.

Its a strange old phenomenon that people are able to form a negative opinion very quickly, after one or two poor displays. But when a player starts doing well, scoring goals, assisting goals creating chances, like Rogers has, that ability to make those snap judgements in a positive way completely disappears...🤷

Judging new signings after 2 or 3 games is just ridiculous anyway, especially a young lad who has just moved half way round the world and has never played at this level before

People just like to be “first” with an opinion, in the hope of eventually being able to say “I told you all this MONTHS AGO”

You see I don’t mind people offering balanced views like- “needs time to settle in” “ “looks a bit out of his depth at the moment“.
But let’s not pretend that’s the kind of thing a lot of people were saying. It was rubbish like “stealing a wage” “worst player I’ve ever seen” “league two at best”. They’re all direct quotes.
Completely over the top unbalanced knee jerk nonsense.
Only Silvera, but privately I did say in the sheff weds game his decision making was that of a pub player. I stand by it for that game, having said that I think the point we got there that day was very important to our upturn in form.

I tend to go the other way as I will rarely form a negative opinion quickly whereas I would with a positive one.

Is it okay to say I still wouldn't want to start Rodgers and Silvera for 25 games a season still ?
For me personally, I don't think they are ready for that with what I've seen.
Forss, Mcgree, Jones, Crooks, and now Greenwood are all ahead of them in terms of where our success is coming from.
I'm hopeful that they can learn the necessity of defensive responsibility alongside their natural instincts of how they want to play.
They both have good examples in Crooks and Jones in how to be in this team .

That's a long winded way of saying "How very dare you"?

Point of order though. I'm not self appointed. :) And I didn't name you.

I tentatively agree, or know what you mean at least, about our ‘core’ players but I just looked at our goals in the past 7 league games. The last 7 were unbeaten and we’ve won the last 6.

We’ve scored 15 goals in those 7 games. 10 of them were scored by players signed under Scott. 3 of them were assisted by players signed under Scott. Over the whole season it’s 13 of our 19 goals and 3 assists. So in total 13 goals and 6 assists. They’ve scored around two thirds of our league goals and also made a third. That is a HUGE contribution to our upturn in form and our ascent from 24th to 7th.

And I still don’t get why we must draw the arbitrary line at the last 13 signings to be honest. As has been said previously, 3 of them were goalkeepers. We needed a No1 and we got one, we needed back-ups so our own young ‘keepers can go out on loan and play.

I think Carrick has had a look at Coulson and decided he isn’t up to it. Hence Bangura signing late on. I’ve no issue with any of that. O’Brien could be a key man when he gets back. Van den Berg is a very talented teenager. People like Lenihan, Barlaser, Forss… they all play their part. And then the clutch of talented younger players chipping in, as shown above.

I have to say, I don’t really know what else you would expect from the club really. They appear to have taken a longer view re. recruitment and there are some very promising signs. I was always confident and optimistic and I could never understand the scale of the criticism. It seemed obvious to me that so many new players would need longer than half a dozen games to settle into a new team, area, system, etc.

The new lads are doing great. I’m absolutely chuffed that Carrick, the staff, the players can enjoy their football again. I don’t think we should downplay the role any of them are playing in our rise up the table.

Again there is supreme irony in Muttley accusing anybody else of arrogance and talking others down.
