I'm not sure it was a case of Wilder's system being found out. Wilder got Sheff Utd promoted to the Premier League. Surely Premier League backroom staff would have done their homework and studied how his system works before playing Sheff Utd, yet Sheff Utd were able to finish 9th that season.
Again, there was a spell not long after he'd taken charge here where we were performing well and getting results. It should have been easy for clubs in the Championship to have done their homework before playing us, and come to an understanding of how to play against us, yet we were able to do well for a period.
I really feel the wheels came off after the Hull game. Wilder came out and publicly criticised players, and it was after this game when the Burnley speculation began.
I think things could have been different had we signed the defensive midfielder Wilder wanted, the LCB Wilder wanted, a decent replacement for Tav in midfield. As it was though, Wilder wasn't aligned with the club with regards to the type of signings he wanted the club to make in my opinion.
Was it also the case that Gibson no longer trusted Wilder because of Burnley? Were the players no longer playing for Wilder because of Burnley and the fact he'd started publically criticising them?
Who knows, but what I do know is that it most likely wasn't a case of his system being found out.
