Shoplifting

Mrs 259 works for M&S. They have a "security" guard, but he is next to useless. The store security system is useless and the staff are told not to put themselves at risk. The majority of theft is committed by a small group of people who clearly don't have a lot of money, but they do mostly have a habit of one sort or another .... clothes, underwear, high value food and drink are taken and usually sold on in the pub over the road.
There are the pro thieves who lierally come in and fill a holdall .... then flog the stuff on ebay, or on market stalls.
Then there are the "apparently" well to do ladies .... posh M&S customers ... who steal for god knows what reason: because they can? Because they feel entitled. Who knows. They are the ones most often caught because they tend not to pose a physical threat to staff.

At the bottom of it all is the fact that M&S don't invest in any decent form of security ... they take the losses on the chin. Maybe they've decided that it's a better choice economically.
The thieves seem to see the store as fair game for that reason.

I was a manager for Aldi in Stockton for two years. Every single hour someone made off with something.

One lad stole more than £1000 worth of gear from us, we went after him once and I got jabbed with a needle.

Six weeks of torment wondering whether I was ****ed before I got given the all clear. Went to court and testified against him, he got ordered to pay us back £2 a week until it was paid off. He never did. Didn’t see any jail time.

The majority of those who steal do so because they want to get caught and go to jail. There’s no life for them outside of prison. Inside, they have a warm cell, a bed and food.

It’s a never ending cycle.

It really needs to far less socially acceptable to buy these goods from shoplifters

When families are skint, being "social" or "moral" doesn't feed them.
Chase the tax dodgers and tax the filthy rich like BP. Pay people a decent wage and increase social security.
Poverty generates and sustains crime to survive, whether we might like it or not.

Exactly my thoughts roofie

At the Onestop next to the Coronation, a lad brazenly starts filling his jacket with gear ,whilst his mate is doing the same in the other aisle , by the time I get the attention of the staff, they’re out the door ,jump on pushbikes and scraper up Acklam Road. Unbelievably brazen scumbags.
Great way to save money this Xmas.. remember BORROWING is not stealing.

My mate on Tesco customer services said it's mostly people that know what they are doing. They know what time the security guard is on etc. He said they had someone come in recently, filled their trolley with spirits, covered it with crisps so they weren't visible and then had a friend come in deliberately looking dodgy to distract the staff. He was doing nothing wrong but distracted the staff enough they didn't see the guy with the booze leaving. They had it all on CCTV, including car and registration but police weren't interested. Booze is super easy to sell and the security tags don't stop you opening the bottle.

The real "shoplifters" like this criminal Mone, cost ordinary people's lives, at our expense, during covid.
Lining her pockets with the help of her rich, powerful mates.
She is the ******* thief who deserves banging up!

I worked in retail for 26 years. By the end...2 years ago...it was horrific. People don't care as staff are told not to tackle them...I've seen a manager stabbed with a screwdriver in the hand for example. We had to put steaks and joints out one at a time....they'd come in and clear the place....sometimes it would happen 4-5 times a day. I was in Norton...coppers told us that a lot of them would get the bus from hartlepool to Boro and try their luck there..then stockton...then us and then Hartlepool as all.on the same route.
Coppers don't give a sh!te unless it's towards the end of their financial year and they need the figures to get their budget for the next year.
I was working one Sunday after the shop closed with a colleague and heard someone breaking in....we hid in the toilets. When we came out we rang the police....they came out and the first thing they said is "did u see or try and stop them"....the look we got when we said no!!! 2 lasses listening to someone kicking double glazed security glass in...we weren't hanging around!!
Doesn't help when it's happening from within either🙄🙄

And the stories I could tell...you couldn't make some of them up. And I see the posts about Mone etc and I do agree...but when u work in a shop and see the degree its on its horrific...and the violence is on the increase as well....I mean they're giving shop staff body cameras now...its ridiculous

I know for a fact Greggs staff get told not to do anything if anyone steals, they don't even call security, unless the staff or customers are in danger or being harassed.

I find it fascinating that folks are vilifying shoplifters when mone stole 60 million and killed NHS staff in the process.

Perhaps we are looking in the wrong direction.
Both directions are correct...why should the lives of shop workers be put at risk because...I promise you...it will happen

Surprised he didn’t go to prison if he jabbed you with a needle?

You sure it wasn’t 6 months.

Shoplifting is hardly a one way ticket to prison. Much easier ways.

The majority? Well that's not true at all. A tiny minority maybe.
And to think shoplifters only do so out of need and poverty is pretty naive. Of course some do it for that reason which is shameful, but most shoplifting is through greed. Often organised and coordinated. Increasingly threatening or violent.
