Second Test - India v England

Who's getting up early tomorrow to watch it then?

I've just read on the BBC website that the following will miss out:

Anderson - rested (though I thought he might have been included given his heroics in the first test).
Bess - dropped.
Archer - injured.

Moeen Ali, Broad, Foakes, Stone and Woakes come into the 12 man squad.

I'd probably go for Ali, Broad, and Woakes. Even though Woakes won't be be ideal for the conditions I think by not picking him it leaves us too short in the bowling department.

What do you reckon?

Burn
Sibley
Lawrence
Root
Stokes
Pope
Moeen
Foakes
Woakes
Leech
Broad

Having a nice lengthy batting order can’t be bad, especially 1up in the series, although draws are hard to envisage from this point with rumours that curators have been instructed to provide a good old fashioned ‘raging bunsen’.

Record it, start watching about 830, fast forward the intervals, except for Simon Hughes who's limited to the tea interval, but should be doing the analysis as he did before in my opinion

With Buttler missing and Foakes replacing him I thought they may opt to bring Ali back in.

Wasn't expecting to be without Anderson and Archer too but can't see it being anyone but Broad and Woakes replacing them.

I heard this morning that they want to play Broad and Anderson in the day / night test where its likely to swing. So 'resting' one for this test.

I bet Jimmy was raging😂

It's a bit harsh on Best. Although he did struggle to hold up the run rate (as did Leach). You would say adding Ali will make the batting stronger but he's hardly been in good nick for years.

Archer seems to pick up a fair few knocks. I guess it's the hazards of being a fast bowler. He's vital for the ashes to go up against the Australian quicks.

Is Moen Ali the same as he was 2/3/4 years ago, when he would take loads of key wickets and score lots of runs?

He really went off the boil for some reason. Can he recapture his old form again?

It wasn't like Bess just got taken apart by some of the world's best players of spin, he bowled very poorly in the second innings and posed very little threat. Those three consecutive full tosses stick in my memory and I think it's the correct decision to drop him. There has to be some accountability at a certain point.

Leach was attacked by pant. I don’t think leach will lost too much sleep. It happens, he didn’t bowl that poorly to be fair

Bess was really inconsistent and bowled poorly 2nd innings. Got some luck with his wickets

I think they will go like for like and pick Stones ahead of Woakes as he is more of an Archer type bowler.
Selectors seem to like having pace available and it also shows they have faith in Stones. No point in taking him if you are not going to play him when Archer is injured.

Alis batting dropped a little due to his extra bowling duties i would suggest , its still mot bad think he still has lots to offer , hes been moved so far down the order it would be hard for it not to drop

Actually I probably agree with you here. Stone over for Archer. Pace for pace.

Aye, it'll be interesting to see how Foakes does. I think he plays spin quite well, so I'm quietly optimistic about his return (cue the King Pair 😂)

Im gutted Bess has been dropped, not because he think he's undroppable but I just love his honesty in his interviews.

7am bell for me. I hope I'm wrong about Ali, but I think his time has gone. He's been poor with bat and ball for a long time now. Let's hope he's got his mojo back. If they're preparing turners I'd rather Rashid was over there. Think they'll go Stone over Woakes.
Looking forward to the next few days.

I can't watch 'live' sport that I've recorded (when it's Boro or England involved) as I always end up fast forwarding any bits where it gets a bit tense to see what happened

Another one that agrees with dropping Bess. 3 full tosses in a row when he's not under pressure and with the foot in the neck of the Indians is unforgivable. Tbf neither of them ever bowl a full over tightly to build pressure but Bess was worse than Leach.
You have to say fair play to the selectors in making brave decisions

What a potentially great day of sport. Up early for the cricket, switch to rugby then Boro. I'm hoping for three good outcomes.

As for the changes. I agree with all. Anderson is an English sporting icon, but he's 38 and has to be managed. Broad coming in doesn't diminish the team.

Full agree. Leach ended up with 4 wickets in that second innings and improved after some poor bowling earlier in the 2nd innings but Bess was disappointing.
