Season card sales

So the new season is almost upon us. As it stands, the club have confirmed that we have sold just under 21,000 season cards. Given the positivity from last season when Carrick came in, is anyone else a little disappointed with those numbers? Prices are clearly a huge factor, as the cost of everything seems to be going up.

They are highest season ticket sales we've had in the championship and being honest the price of them in a cost of living crisis unreal numbers

I think it's a decent number considering.

Extortionate prices and a transfer window that as of this moment has left us in a weaker position than the end of the season, and injuries blighting plenty of those players we already had.

There's not been a great deal to build hype or positivity around this summer, so it's harder to convince people to stump up £590+ when they weren't fully invested to begin with or already lacked the finances to get a season ticket during the cheaper early bird window.

Not bad for a small town in Yorkshire 👍🏻 our prices are higher than most in the league, and we’re in the poorest part of the country, plus there hasn’t been any high profile signings to really fire up spirits so far this transfer window - all in all I’d say the numbers are very good considering all those factors

The club gambled by increasing the early bird prices, because at that point we were in with a shot of promotion. Increasing the early bird prices then meant that inevitably they'd have to increase the price for new buyers.

If we'd gone up then you can guarantee there would have been plenty of fans willing to pay an extortionate price for Premier League football, but not for the Championship.

In reality though, 21k is still a decent number.

I don't think we would see a massive increase in new buyers if we had Sunderland's pricing structure. We would definitely be able to attract a few extra thousand, but long-term that could mean a loss in revenue, if everyone is paying a lot less for their season ticket.

21k is the most season ticket holders we have ever had at the start of a season in the second tier with the exception of 1997/8 season. That season we had just signed Merson, an England International. His wages were higher than the entire squad of some Championship teams. According to him we had doubled his Arsenal wages. 21k to me is a very healthy figure.

I really don’t get this “ small town stuff” there’s half a million people in teesside and people have stokelsy and guisbrough as us there main team. There’s a reason we are capable of 30,000 plus averages

It is excellent support.
High prices, cost of living crisis, poor part of England.
Uninspiring transfer window to say the least.
For our catchment area is it? Ipswich sold 21,000 within a few weeks, I know I’ll get back clash and expect people to say “ Middlesbrough is a small town “ but considering teesside is the size of a major city and North Yorkshire I think it’s a bit poor

If you look at the broader catchment of many clubs you will see much bigger populations that the immediate town/city.
E.g. Leicestershire 700k, Derbyshire 800k.

1.2 million people in the tees valley a quick Google search will confirm it. Dunno why our fans try and make out we’re smaller than we are never get it.

It's very decent numbers. I don't buy the argument that there is a thousands and thousands of would be season ticket holders if we halved our costs. We quite simply don't have a large fanbase.

We’re the 16th best supported club over the course of English football history 🤣🤣 and we’ve won nothing.
