You have to be joking.
Tees valley population into Google according to 2019 census 1.2 million people live in the area. Middlesbrough 174,000 Redcar and Cleveland 140,000 Stockton on tees metro pop including billingham and thornaby 197,000. That alone is a baseline of 500,000 and will be the baseline of we’re we get our support from. I’m not claiming we have poor support, over the course of our history our support is fantastic and in terms of crowd to success wise us our Birmingham will take the title of biggest underachiever, my point being is we don’t really have huge competition for support and are capable of maintaining 30,000 plus crowds. Clubs in small areas aren’t.

I'm not sure how big you think Hartlepool and Darlington are if you think they're adding 700,000+ people on top of the population of Teesside 😂.

This is the official 2021 census population for each area in the Tees Valley:

Redcar and Cleveland: 136,500
Middlesbrough: 143,900
Stockton-on-Tees: 196,600

Hartlepool: 92,300
Darlington: 107,800

So the population of the Tees Valley in 2021 was 677,100.
Absolutely nowhere near 1.2 million, and Hartlepool and Darlington definitely won't be hotbeds of Boro support.

You're making a pretty big leap that people in all those areas support Boro. I live in billingham and always surprised by the amount of geordie fans

There’s 500,000 in teesside alone, there’s 1.2 million in the area it includes salt burn and guisbrough I believe but according to Google there’s 1.2 million people in the tees valley area.

No, you're just using a clearly and demonstrably incorrect figure off of the first result on Google.

I've given you the most recent official census figures from our own government, the population of the entire Tees Valley is 677,100.

Teesside alone is 477,000,

The point I was making is that Middlesbrough isn’t the club of the town otherwise it would be the same size as Rotherham, it’s the club of teesside and the wider area, the 1.2 million people will include the wider area other than teesside plus darlo and Hartlepool

The 1.2 million figure is just an incorrect figure.

I've given you the population figures, that includes every single town, village and shack in the Tees Valley.

it’s not incorrect it includes the wider area, not just teesside and darlo and Hartlepool, either way the point I was making is we have a relatively large area to pull from with little competition for support, nearest “ big club “ to us is 45 minutes away

I've actually checked the source of the 1.2 million and it bizarrely includes the entirety of County Durham in the figure.

The figures are all off anyway, but we're definitely not drawing significant support from the likes of Chester-le-Street and Durham.
It is bizarre. The only parts of Durham in the Tees Valley is Hartlepool, Darlo and North Bank of Stockton on Tees. Those populations do not come under the Durham County Council population figures (apart as ceremonial, same as Middlesbrough being ceremonially part of North Yorkshire).
Also, the person didn't seem to understand Guisborough and Stokesley may have Boro as their main team, but they're small market towns in the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland (ie they've already been counted)

******CORRECTION ******

Stokesley is NOT in Redcar and Cleveland but North Yorkshire. So, you can add 4,757 (four thousand, seven-hundred and fifty-seven) to the final figures

1.2 million people in the tees valley a quick Google search will confirm it. Dunno why our fans try and make out we’re smaller than we are never get it.
Don’t make me laugh with that tees valley nonsense - Darlington and Hartlepool are in the “tees valley” and we all know what teams most people support there, an it ain’t Boro
