RIP Gordon McQueen

A true swashbuckling footballer and good guy by all accounts. Sad news but living with dementia which my dad also did is no life. At least he at peace now from that awful illness

We bumped into him at Cardiff as our group got out of our stretch hummer and he was trying to get round us. He stopped and chatted to us a bit. He was absolutely beaming with joy and a lovely fella.

Sometimes you wonder about people from outside the area coming to a club and whether they do actually care about it. That meeting dispelled any doubts I had about Gordon. Genuine love for the club and the area and a genuine good bloke.

Very, very sad. Thoughts go to his family and friends.

I think he still lived in the area, I used to speak to him in Hutton Rugby at his house, about 10 years ago, last saw him in Tescos in Ingleby Barwick about 6 years ago.RIP

RIP Gordon - so sad to read this news.
Back in the day Fischer and myself loved to go to the Kings Head to chat with Gordon. He was always friendly and approachable and couldn't be more helpful. Always such a lovely guy and so knowledgeable about a game he clearly loved. Boro, Teesside and Hutton Rudby became his second home and he played a big role in the community.
I was so pleased to meet him after he had beaten throat cancer but then came that diagnosis of vascular dementia in 2021, a horrible disease robbing Gordon of all those great memories and placing so much demand on friends, family and carers.
It was always great to chat with someone that had been a football superstar but was so much a down to earth guy. So long Gordon friend of the Boro - who became one of our own.
RIP

Such sad news. He came across as such a great fella and clearly had a love for our area. Dementia is such a cruel disease. RIP Gordon.

Awful to learn of his challenges with his health, it just reminds us all on how precious life is and how vulnerable we become once we hit a snag in the road called "poor health". It only seems like yesterday when Robbo arrived on Teesside with his team including Gordon and Viv, who you could argue propelled us to the club we are today. RIP Gordon, you will be missed and thanks for the incredible memories.

Met him a couple of times. Went out of his way to have a chat when he didn't have to. Also remember him scoring 2 goals in the last few minutes at Elland Road after Alf Wood scored for boro. RIP. Big man

Really sad to hear this and he will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure to meet or watch him play football.

A truly sad day for the footballing community on both sides of the border.

RIP Gordon.
