Renewal Announcement - 30th March Deadline

But again you're just focusing on the on the pitch results, I'm trying to balance it with the prices the club charge.

I know we have no god given right to be promoted, even through the play offs, but we exist alongside other clubs of a similar stature / even smaller than us yet we pay the highest price of all of them to watch effectively the same thing.

You're right we probably wont agree on this, but good that we can have that discussion without name calling as is often the way on here.
I dont think I'd be a fan if the prices were comparable to when I started.

My dad never went to matches (car sales worked Saturday games) so I went with my uncle before my mam let me start going with my mates. I think I paid a couple of quid at 14 and that at today's prices would be maybe £5. I couldn't even think about a season ticket at that point.

I've spent tens of thousands of pounds following the club and I encourage no one to work out how much they've spent, but at the moment, nah. Yeah, Gibson put in a load of shares, it didn't mean he drank Echo Falls last night. Anyone think he'd swap his life with yours?

Although we failed in promotion last season, I was positive about the season overall as we had progressed. We moved forward as a club. We went from 7th -> 4th. From outside the play-offs to achieving Play-offs. We played good football that looked like we could beat anyone at any time. We had a manager in place who looked like he had a plan and was progressive. We have scored 2.0 PPG since Carrick had taken over which is genuine promotion form. If we could carry that into the next season we were going to be in the mix. The type of players we had signed were exciting, particularly the players we had on loan.

This season, not only have we failed in promotion (well 99% certain that we will fail in promotion), we have regressed as a club. We have dropped totally out of promotion contention. The football is no where the level we were at this time last year and seems to be getting worse as the season progresses. The players we've signed on the whole are sub-standard, we have holes all over the squad and we know even more holes will made made in the coming months. I feel far less optimistic about next season.

So to answer your post. No, last season was not seen as a "big fat fail". This season is....
A big fat fail.

The club really don't make that much per head on the concourse. So the arguement about more punter = more revenue to cover the reduction in price, doesn't really stand up.
Appreciate they will make about 20p for every Mars bar sold, but it's all additional revenue. Every little helps etc.

This is on top of the additional gate money as I highlighted.

Aren't businesses supposed to maximise all revenue streams?

Boro seem to be adopting a more "sod it..... that'll do" kind of approach.

I think we all know that its a generally badly ran business based around the on-field product being successful or otherwise.

Anyone who is half decent leaves. Both of the Emmerson brothers left quite quickly, one to Stoke and the other realised he could make more money from the club outside the club.

I've said this before but the club fail to recognise that their fanbase comes from all sorts of backgrounds who have experience in lots of areas of business that the club engages in. They have fans who work in retail, marketing, logistics, merchandising, PR who understand that Boro are frankly amateurish in everything they do.

Shock horror, the Gazette have published their puff piece, no doubt authored by Sir Steve himself (or one of his minions)

Re: club shop/volumes and I know I've referenced the shop previously, but another small scale example of pi*s up in a brewery was rge Chelsea hone game.
The club advertised scarves at £12 as part of the fan initiated bring a scarf night.
Me and my lad went in the shop at 7pm - no scarves. Assistant said "we got enough stick in but it's been mental". I pointed out that they clearly hadn't ordered sufficient and was assured that yes, they had, but it had been busier than expected.
My point being - if we fully utilised our retail revenue streams, it may help avoid constant ticket price increases.
We are utterly shambolic on the retail element. The Fanzone bar was a good idea, but now make it a permanent structure, install heaters etc etc
And a roof over it.
Maybe extend the shop outwards, because that space under the NW corner isnt much bigger than a Portakabin and no longer fit for purpose.
The concourses, certainly under the South Stand, is wasted with areas set aside for betting and temporary bars. At one time there was a small shop - installed without any consultation - more like a merc store at a Take That Concert. It vanished.

The overall impact of ticket sales to total revenues for us and other Championship teams when compared to those of teams in the PL is no doubt an excessive proportion. Moreover, Teesside is an economically depressed market area.

As a result, we have the critical requirement for the very careful and delicate management by the club of its ticket sales.

That said, the sooner we get back to the PL with its abundance in tv revenues the better. The bottom line % contribution from ticket sales to overall revenues would then adjust significantly downwards and the club could more easily and fairly address those contributions (from and for) the fans in the seats.

Until then, maybe the club could use some of the one-off revenues from player sales to soften the blow.
Why not build off what we have and make an effort attracting more fans to the riverside.. rather than punishing the faithful?

Again the concourse and the club shop.. both shocking.. but the club doesn’t want to do thing’s properly.. it stinks. Small time crooked way about going about things..

The club shop is totally shyt.. and the concourses.. as I’ve said before.. it’s no surprise as to why some are turning to drugs!

Yes it is that bad.. the club clearly don’t give a fcuk and I think the best way is just to avoid them all together.

I’ll easily save the extra money they’re asking for.. fcuk em!

They had a really good opportunity to build on something good.. but instead they have been absolute dikcheads about the whole thing.

They don’t give a fcuk.. the staff have no urgency.. no one is asred! Like it’s fine for fans to miss out the game just because they fancied a pint at half time!

I wonder if the club have coincided why we fo have such a good away following?

Maybe it is baca use our matchday experience is fcuking shyte!!

While I agree, the service at Bradford and Blackburn this season made the Riverside look like a smooth well run operation......

But kids on minimum wage.....hardly going to expect them to be busting a gut to get "Employee of the Month".

Think a lot of football clubs still don't particularly give a sh*t or want to make things easy for the fans.

I don’t think the debate is about quality vs value for money. I don’t think any of us can really say we support Middlesbrough to watch incredible football. We can’t say that we feel there is a relationship between what we pay and the quality of the product we get back because football is not transactional like that. We watch it because we have a connection to something bigger than the sums of our parts. We have a loyalty and commitment that won’t go away and we support everything the club means to us collectively and individually.

The expectation argument can be had forever. Personally I think we are in an accurate place between 15th in the second tier and 12th in the top tier. We are like lots of teams. Squads change, people move on, but we still support don’t we? I don’t think it’s useful to connect these announcements with how the club in performing.

It is disappointing that the club has acted in a way that disrespects the reasons why we all make the sacrifice to support the club. To some of us it’s an enormous sacrifice and to some of us it’s less about financial sacrifice and more about a time sacrifice. That’s the injustice here. We deserve clear communication, an apology and a commitment to be better with suitable accountability. That sacrifice is what brings us all together and it is not beyond a good PR and marketing team to make that into a positive that can galvanise fans during a tough part of the season to commit to renewing their tickets.

The experience has shown weaknesses in the club and weaknesses in the fan forum governance and I hope that they will address them. I think fans need a more accountable relationship with the bodies making representation to the club, increasing participation and turning a percentage of people who love to moan into people who can contribute in a progressive way. Again a good PR team would be all over it to get out of the crisis they have got themselves in!

Its not about kids being on minimum wage.. it's pish poor training.. no pints pre pulled.. no definition for the queues.. no staff bothering to make sure there are three queues rather than two massive ones.

All this b***ks about fan interaction, meetings.. it's all fcuking shyte if you can have a pint at half time or buy a shirt from the club shop.

AND it feels very much like a slap in the face from the club them charging for their fcuk ups.. the club cannot be asred.

as i've said before.. not gonna bother with the concourse or the club shop.. problem solved.

I am presently sitting in my car in Preston looking forward to the game. I hope wherever you are tonight you are listening/watching/,hoping.
Let's have a good game. Let's work together.

I know they are in a different league to us but Spurs new stadium generates £1m per game in food, drink and merchandise sales. That is miles ahead of other big clubs even but it is because they have invested to do it. Their stadium is where people go to eat and drink pre and post match. They serve good quality beer, I believe they have a Beavertown brewery on site. They have good quality food at competitive prices. They have processes in place so everything is done as quickly and efficiently as possible. They are cashless so there's no slowdown while people pay etc.

I don't expect us to be able to compete with a £1bn stadium in London but we should be able to compete with the burger vans outside our the pubs in town and we should be able to setup to serve people quickly. The fact we've done nothing to try in the 30 years we've been in the stadium tells me that the people in charge don't even know it's a problem. It's funny because they sit in hospitality and they get their food and drink in a timely manner.

I can see the uproar now… £6 for a pint of neck oil?! £11 for a grass fed burger and hand cut chips?!

There would be riots 😅

Any idea what they charge for pints, burgers etc?
