Renewal Announcement - 30th March Deadline

I didn't think the announcement could get any worse, then they publish this :ROFLMAO: Bringing employees on minimum wage into it, wow!
I believe the increase in wages (not players) and business rates eat up nearly all the added income from the prices increase.

Thanks. I understand why there is a sudden panic but adding this statement on top of the other stuff was a misjudgment too. I think they are right to raise the cost of running the club, legislation changes that they are impacted by, business rate increases/resets that they are impacted by. All that adds to why they have taken that decision but none of it was communicated to the fans until after a backlash. It’s really poor public relations. Even councils increasing council tax conduct surveys with residents and explain the situation to them, bring them on the journey.

Glad the deadline has moved. Good work. My only ask would be to make it really clear to them how bad they judged this and how lazy the launch was. If it looks like they don’t care anymore why should we? At this stage they need to accept the responsibility and take it as a learning point for the future.

Yes I believe that is right and they could see the from the numbers and names involved.
So a successful strategy for converting walk-ups to season ticket holders was canned because, let me get this right, people were taking advantage of a good deal and not paying the rip-off prices they should be paying.

On the topic of "successful schemes". How's the membership scheme going? Were there many takers? I assume not because it's pretty rubbish.

A club that’s carrying 30 senior professionals with a further 4 out on loan shouldn’t be talking about the wages earned by those at the very bottom of the chain; the stewards, the programme sellers, the club shop and ticket office staff, the cleaners, the lads and lasses pulling your pints and putting your Mars bars through the till.

It’s absolutely appalling that they’ve mentioned those people. I notice they didn’t mention Bausor’s salary in that little press release. Nobody needs £250,000 a year to live a comfortable, healthy and prosperous life in our part of the country.

It’s such an appalling statement. The sentiment behind it is one of self-preservation. They’ve f*cked up and they’re looking for someone to blame. To invoke cleaners and tea ladies is so, so arrogant. Personally I feel like it says quite a lot about how those upstairs think these days. Comfortable, drunk on their own self-importance, behaving like fat Tories.

This club used to punch above its weight. That statement shows they’re happy to punch down instead.

Appalling.

I didn't agree with the axing of Half Season Tickets - neither did the Forum and we tried to argue the case. Unsuccessfully, Although numbers buying were never that high. But surely every buy is a big positive.
However, Membership take up has been really high. A real success. This is again really good to hear because it comes only after we have all pressed for memberships to be reintroduced for many years.
You said you do not have a season ticket any longer, would membership be something you might consider?

They treat the two sides of the club separately - I suppose they actually have to for FFP purposes. But Middlesbrough is a now a major employer, full time and part time in Middlesbrough and Teesside. It isn't only that a successful club impacts the economy and mood of the area indirectly it also does this directly through wages.

Exactly this. Well said viv. Tasteless and classless from MFC.

I have to say, I'm even angrier than yesterday - to reference increases to the NMW as mitigation for the increase is scandalous, having just received circa £12m+ for Rogers & Crooks. It's the club yet again taking the punters for absolute mugs I've been going for over 50 years and will go from time to time, but renewing? - not a chance.

I wonder how the rest of the Championship are dealing with the same issue. Genuine question by the way.
It will be interesting. The financial squeeze on the Championship is maybe worse than any other league.
The relegated clubs get paid £100m. Middlesbrough gets £8, from the Premier pot. Obviously the relegated clubs face a daunting task of balancing the books but they are still able to blow everyone else out of the water. A club like Ipswich gives everyone hope. But they are dropping fast.
Several clubs are rumoured to be in tricky situations financially. One is unofficially bust. How on earth do you chase the relegated clubs? I suppose you hope that one or two implode.

Wonder how Coventry, Hull, Ipswich, Preston etc manage it....

If this was Sunderland I would find it hilarious. I do on some level still find it very funny.

It really is not far off a policy of only previous season card holders can buy a season card in future. It is incredibly short sighted.

How when a large section of the local area is priced out of the club?
I know I know. The Forum (and myself) will always argue for price cuts. Honestly that is the case.
I try to communicate where the club is coming from to help bridge the gaps. Am expecting some possible dates this evening for a Q and A with Steve Gibson so hopefully we will be able to hear the chairman tell it how he sees it.

I hope the concession I got helps some fans.

Can't wait to have a dig at the young lad on NMW serving me in the concourse at the Plymouth game. It's your fault we're all paying extra, mate!
If he is younger than 21 then he will not be getting the National Minimum Wage. Hence the reason why a lot of the bar staff are young.
